Honda Cars India has just launched the BS6 Petrol version of the best-selling City C-Segment sedan. Prices of the BS6 Honda City Petrol have been hiked between Rs. 9,000 and Rs. 15,000 when compared to those of the BS4 model. The BS6 version of the Honda City Diesel will be launched closer to the 1st April 2020 deadline, which is when every internal combustion engined vehicle sold in India needs to comply with BS6 norms.
After 31st March 2020, non-BS6 vehicles will not be registered at any Regional Transport Office (RTO) across India. coming back to the Honda City BS6, prices of the car start from Rs. 9.91 lakh for the base SV petrol trim. Other trims are priced at Rs. 10.66 lakh for the V MT, Rs. 11.82 lakh for the VX MT, Rs. 13.01 lakh for the ZX MT, Rs. 12.01 lakh for the V CVT, Rs. 13.12 lakh for the VX CVT and Rs. 14.31 lakh for the ZX CVT. All prices reflect ex-showroom Delhi figures. Apart from BS6 compliance, the City Petrol sedan has also received the Digipad 2.0 infotainment system in the V, VX and ZX trims. The BS6 compliant Honda City Petrol is powered by the 1.5 liter-4 cylinder naturally aspirated i-VTEC engine that makes 117 Bhp of peak power and 145 Nm of peak torque. Known for its refined nature and peppy power delivery, this petrol engine has been used across many generations of the City sedan. 5 speed manual and CVT automatic gearboxes are offered with this engine.
The City is also available with a diesel engine, which is currently BS4 compliant. The 1.5 liter-4 cylinder i-DTEC turbocharged diesel engine is an all aluminium unit, and makes 98.6 Bhp-200 Nm. The diesel engine of the sedan is paired to a six speed manual gearbox as standard. This diesel engine will soon be made BS6 compliant. Honda also has plans of offering a CVT automatic gearbox with this diesel engine in the next generation City sedan, which will make its debut in India next year.
The 5th generation Honda City sedan was unveiled in Thailand days ago. The car is likely to be shown in India early next year, close to the 2020 Indian Auto Expo, a biennial event that Honda has chosen to skip in 2020. The all-new City gets a 1 liter turbo petrol engine for the Thai market but this engine isn’t likely to be offered in the India-spec version. The new City gets a fresh new design, and grows in size. It’ll be feature-laden, and could be pricier than the outgoing model, especially in BS6 Diesel trim.
