Global NCAP started testing Indian spec cars to make cars safer for India. There is a slew of Indian cars that have been tested by the agency but only a few have received a respectable 4-star rating or 5-star rating. Here are 6 such cars that have received the 4 or 5 stars rating and can be bought in India.
Tata Altroz
The Tata Altroz became the first Indian hatchback with a perfect five-star rating. It has received a high score of 16.13 out of 17 in the adult safety rating and the body structure of the car is stable. The Tata Altroz offers driver and co-driver airbags as standard across all the variants. It also offers ABS, EBD, Corner Stability Control, seatbelt reminder, speed alert system and more as standard. The Tata Nexon became the first car to get a five-star rating. The sub-4m compact SUV scored 16.06 points out of 17. The Nexon was re-tested by the agency after Tata made a few changes to the vehicle. It offers features like dual-front airbags and full channel ABS as standard fitment.
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza
The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is the safest vehicle from India’s largest carmaker. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza received a 4-star rating in the test by Global NCAP last year. The car has scored 12.51 points out of 17 for adult safety. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza’s body structure has been listed as stable. Also, the integral parts like the A-Pillar of the vehicle remain completely unaffected too. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza gets dual front airbags, ISOFIX mounts, and ABS as standard.
Mahindra Marazzo

Volkswagen Polo scored a zero when it was first tested by the organisation. After that, the German manufacturer equipped all the vehicles with dual airbags as standard in India. After the re-test happened on the updated model, the Polo scored 4 stars and got 12.54 points out of 17. Volkswagen Polo’s body structure is stable. It also gets standard ABS.
