Tata Motors recently launched the Altroz premium hatchback in the Indian market. It competes with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Hyundai Elite i20 in the segment. Tata Motors as expected has priced Altroz very competitively. Price for Altroz starts at Rs 5.29 lakh ex-showroom which makes it cheaper than the competition. Tata Motors has up with a new customisation scheme for Altroz where the buyers can choose from variety of customisation option to make Altroz look premium. Tata Motors is calling this Imaginator and is probably India’s first factory fitted customisations.

The Imaginator customisation allows the customer to customise Altroz the way they want using different packs. There are five different packs available on the basis of trim you have. There is Rhythm pack for XE trim, Rhythm pack and style pack for XM trim, Luxe pack for XT trim and Urban pack for XZ trim.

The Rhythm pack includes customisation options like an 8.89 cm infotainment system with 4 speakers, remote key and dual tone horn. The Rhythm pack for XM trim contains a 17.78 cm infotainment system, 4 speakers + 2 tweeters, camera + display and steering mounted controls.

The Style pack for XM trim contains 16 inch stylized steel wheel, dual tone roof, body colour ORVM and AC vents with chrome inserts. The Luxe pack for the XT trim also has similar customisations. It also gets 16 inch steel wheels with stylish wheel cap on it, a dual tone roof, body colour ORVM, leather wrapped steering wheel and rear arm rest. The Urban pack for XZ trim consists of body coloured insert on the centre console and AC vents, dual tone roof and body coloured ORVMs. This is actually a great initiative from the homegrown manufacturer as the buyers won’t have to go for cheap aftermarket alternatives to customise. Many other automakers offer such customization options even in the mass market car segment. Maruti offers dealer-level customization for its cars at both NEXA and Arena outlets.

Tata Altroz is available in both petrol and diesel engine options. It gets a 1.2 litre-3 cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 85 Ps and 114 Nm of torque, and a 1.5 litre turbocharged diesel engine that produces 90 Ps and 200 Nm of peak torque. The highlight about the diesel engine is that the 200 Nm of torque is produced right from 1,250 rpm, which makes the Altroz a very driveable car. Both engine options get a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. Tata is not offering an automatic gearbox at the moment but will launch at a later stage.
