All-new Mahindra Thar has been in the news for various reasons since its official launch. We have seen several review videos, off-road videos and feature listing articles on the internet. One of the good thing about all-new Thar was that Mahindra had launched it in different trims. For those who were looking for a proper off-road oriented vehicle, They had launched AX trims whereas for those who want their off-road SUV to be a bit more comfortable there is the LX variant. Most of the videos seen on the internet are of the LX trims and here we have a video that shows what does the base AX variant of the all-new Thar actually offers.
The video has been uploaded by AutoTrend TV on their YouTube channel. The video starts by showing the exterior of the SUV. Even though it is a base AX trim Thar, Mahindra has not made many changes on the outside. The front gets the same grille with round headlamps and teh turn indicators are also right next to it. Couple of features that are missing in the AX trim are DRLs, fog lamps and a dual tone finish to the front bumper.

Moving to the side profile, one thing that would catch your eyes are the white coloured steel rims. In comparison to the higher LX trims, AX gets smaller 16 inch rims. These wheels are good for those who are more into off-roading. There is side step and the wheel arches get black cladding that give it a rugged look.
As this is the AX variant, it will not come with a hardtop. The soft top on the AX variant is also of good quality and is not a loose fit. It cannot be taken off like in the convertible version. At the rear, it gets a spare wheel and LED tail lights. On the inside, it get a simple steering wheel with no buttons on it. The infotainment system and speaker setup is also not available. It however does get analog instrument cluster with digital MID and it also offers power window.
AX variant is a 6-seater variant and gets side facing bench seats. The floor is all exposed with no mats on it. There are however drain plugs to let the water drain out from the car, if it gets any. It does not get ESP, hill hold and traction control that are available with the LX variant. It however gets dual airbags, ABS and parking sensors as standard.
Mahindra Thar is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. petrol version is powered by a 2.0 litre mStallion turbopetrol unit whereas the diesel version uses a 2.2 litre turbocharged unit. Both petrol and diesel get manual and automatic gearbox option whereas the AX gets manual transmission only. Waiting times for the new Thar now range between six to eight months.
