This year at the Auto Expo, Tata Motors had showcased almost all there vehicles in their pavilion. Along with the existing models, they also showcased upcoming models and concepts like Gravitas and HBX. A concept from Tata Motors that had grabbed attention of the viewers at the expo was Tata Sierra. Tata used to sell an SUV in the market under the very same name in the 90’s. It had a very attractive design but, for some reason it did not do great in terms of numbers. Tata Motors had to discontinue this SUV back in 2000 due to poor sales. Here we have a render image that shows how the SUV might look like, if it were to be launched in the market now.

The render image has been shared on Vandibhranthanmar Facebook group. The rendered image of the production version of Tata Sierra is actually based on the concept that was showcased at the expo earlier this year. The production version of Tata Sierra in artists imagination looks very muscular and has definitely borrowed some characteristics from the older version.

The front grille with honey comb pattern looks quite good along with the sleek looking all LED headlamps. The bumper looks muscular and has a skid plate at the lower part. The fog lamps have black garnish around them which is derived from the concept showcased at the expo. Coming to the side profile, the design is more or less the same as the concept.

One of the noticeable change here is that, it is now a four door SUV. Originally, it was introduced in the market as a three door SUV with a large glass arear at the rear. Even the Sierra concept showcased at the expo had came with a huge glass area with sliding door for rear seat access. The production version render that we see here gets regular door with large windows.

Tata Sierra Concept 3

The boxy shape and design of the SUV is carried from the concept showcased. The blacked out alloy wheels and black cladding around the wheel arches with high ground clearance give it a proper SUV stance. If Tata were to launch this SUV in the market now, there is a possibility that they might have equipped it with the 2.0 litre turbocharged diesel engine that is seen in Harrier. It would have been available with both manual and automatic transmissions.

Tata Sierra when launched in 1991 and it offered number of features like power steering, power windows, tilt steering, central air conditioning and so on. It was not available on any other during that time. With a three door design, Sierra was different from conventional vehicles sold at that time. Tata Sierra was a vehicle that was way ahead of its time in terms of design and technology and that could have been one of the reason why it did not appeal to the customers at that time. Even though Tata had showcased the Sierra concept at the expo, they have not confirmed whether they’ll be bringing back Sierra into production or not.
