China is known for its market for copied products around the world. Pakistan, a close ally of China is filled with Chinese products especially the vehicles. There are copycat cars, SUVs and even motorcycles sold in Pakistan at a fraction of the price of the original products. We have shown several copycat cars and motorcycle from Pakistan and China but this is something unique and is being sold in Pakistan.
This video shows the walkaround of an SUV by BAIC and will be launching soon in the Pakistani market. The BAIC BJ40 Plus looks heavily inspired by the mix of vehicles including our very own Mahindra Thar and Mahindra Bolero. Apart from these two vehicles, this BAIC BJ40 Plus looks heavily inspired by the Jeep look and also the headlamp unit looks like old-generation headlamps from Land Rover SUVs.

BAIC manufactures a lot of such vehicles that get copied designs from popular cars from around the world. From the side, this SUV looks exactly like the Jeep Wrangler. The vehicle also gets massively flared wheel arches that look like inspired by the Thar and Wrangler. In fact, even the Bolero gets similar arches. The vehicle comes heavily loaded with features. It gets a massive amount of space too. There are mounted speakers, touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster and more. The cabin layout is also similar to the Jeep Wrangler. It also gets a lot of features too.
The vehicle is convertible like the Wrangler and even the doors are removable. The windscreen can be folded to give a clear view during shooting and hunting. The roof option will come with a hardtop and a soft top. Owners can remove the fibre hardtop and replace it with the soft top option for easy removal.
The SUV will be launched only with a petrol engine option initially. It will get powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 4X4 system. It gets an automatic transmission. It generates a maximum power of 218 Bhp. At a later date, the 2.0-litre turbocharged-diesel version of the vehicle will be launched too but that will be available only with a manual transmission. There is also a low-ratio transfer case but we are not sure if this vehicle can do off-roading like the Wrangler or even the all-new Mahindra Thar.
China is full of copycat cars and since the government protects the manufacturers, the manufacturers cannot do much. Some of the most popular copycat cars include a McLaren 570GT, Volkswagen Passat, MINI Cooper, Land Rover Discovery Sport, Lamborghini Diablo, Land Rover Evoque, Ford EcoSport, Porsche Cayman, Mercedes-Benz G-Class, Volkswagen Taigun, Porsche Macan and more.
In 2019, Jaguar Land Rover won a legal case that prevented a Chinese car manufacturer from selling the copycat version of the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque. The Chinese manufacturer later launched a tweaked version of the same vehicle and continued selling the same in the domestic market without any problem.
