Ford launched the facelift of the Endeavour due to which got some cosmetic updates and a new 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine. However, in the international markets, the Endeavour is also sold as a pick-up truck and is known as “Ranger”. Surprisingly, the Ranger has been spied recently on the Indian roads and this is not the first time that the Ranger has been spied roaming on the roads of our country. India is not really a pick-up truck market. Due to which there are not many pick-up trucks available in the market.
Currently, there is only the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross that is on sale as a pick-up truck in the Indian market. It starts from Rs. 16.54 lakhs ex-showroom and goes all the way up to Rs. 19.99 lakhs ex-showroom. The Ranger was spied by Karan, who is a resident of Mohali. The pictures were posted in a Chandigarh Facebook group of Endeavour.
The pick-up truck that has been spied is a Raptor variant of Ranger and is carrying a Haryana temporary number plate. The Ranger sits below the F-150 which is the best selling vehicle for Ford. The Ranger is offered with two or four-door versions. In the pictures, we can see that the Ranger here is a four-door version. The Ranger shares the same platform and underpinnings with the Endeavour.

In the international markets, the Ranger is still available with a 2.3-litre diesel engine. The engine is capable of producing 270 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 420 Nm. The engine is mated to the same 10-speed automatic gearbox with SelectShift that we have seen on the Indian Endeavour. When compared the Endeavour that we have in India is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces 170 PS of max power and 420 Nm of peak torque.
If the Ford Ranger is launched in India it will go against the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. The Ranger will be powered by the same 2.0-litre diesel engine which we have seen on the Endeavour. When compared, the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross comes with a 2.5-litre diesel engine that produces 134PS of max power and 320Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Whereas Z-Prestige variant gets a more powerful 1.9-litre diesel engine that produces 150 PS of max power and 350 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
It is highly unlikely that Ford decides to launch the Ranger pick-up truck in India that is because of poor demand for pick-up trucks in India. It is safe to assume that the Ranger is here for equipment testing. They could also be doing some component testing for Mahindra. Also, Ford is not in a position to experiment with an expensive pick-up truck like Ranger. That is why they have partnered up with Mahindra to develop an SUV that will be based upon the new generation of XUV500. The front of the new SUV was also spied recently and you can read more about it by clicking here.
