Nissan Magnite was able to create a lot of hype around it when it was being launched. Due to which the sister sibling to Nissan, Renault also wanted to have a taste of the compact-SUV segment. So, they showcased the Kiger Concept which will be an entry for Renault in the compact-SUV segment. The Magnite was recently launched and it received a good initial response with over 5,000 bookings in just 5 days. Another interesting thing about it is that 60 percent bookings were made for the top two variants. This has pushed Renault to launch its Kiger in the first half of 2021. The production version of the Kiger will be revealed in early 2021.

Renault has already claimed that the Kiger production-spec will share 80% of its design elements with the Kiger Concept. This is a good thing because it is very rare that the concept version of a car is that close to the production version. Renault Kiger will share its platform and engine with the Nissan Magnite. So, there will be two petrol engine options on offer and there will be no diesel engine.

It will get the same 1.0-litre naturally aspirated, three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 72 PS of max power and 96Nm of peak torque. It will be mated to only a 5-speed manual transmission. There will also be a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 100 PS of max power and peak torque output of 160 Nm. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic gearbox on offer.

Speaking of the dimensions, the Kiger will be a sub-compact SUV, which means it will fall under 4 meters, so that it can take advantage of the lower taxes. Just like the Magnite, the Kiger will also have the benefit of high localization production. This and the shared underpinning will help in keeping the costs down as compared to the competition. Both the SUVs get the CMF-A+ platform.

Speaking of the design, the Kiger will get sleek LED Daytime Running Lamps which will be placed where usually the headlamps are placed. In the lower half, the ice-cubed styled headlamps will be placed. From the spy shots, we can see that there are three ice-cube style projector headlamps. We are assuming that there will be one for the high beam, one for the low beam and one for the fog lamp. All of them will be placed in the same headlamp housing for uniformity sake. Renault has given a sculpted bonnet and roof rails to the Kiger for an added SUV look. At the rear, we can see a raked window line and C-shaped LED tail lamps. There are rumours that Renault will also offer an optional roof rack as a genuine accessory. The SUV will also be offered with dual-tone paint job which a lot of manufacturers are now offering.

For the interior, Renault will share some of the design elements and parts with the Triber which is a sub-4 metre MPV. It will get a floating touchscreen infotainment system which will offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Just below that there will be rotary knobs for climate control. There will be dual glovebox, one of which will be cooled to store your beverages. It will get push button to start/stop, digital instrument cluster, ABS with EBD, multi-function steering wheel, rear parking sensors, reverse parking camera and much more. Renault Kiger price is expected to start from Rs. 6 lakhs ex-showroom for the base variant and Rs. 10 lakhs ex-showroom for the top-end variant.
