Italian two wheeler giant Piaggio has been present in Indian market for some time and they have been offering premium scooters that are targeted at young buyers. Earlier this year at the Auto Expo, Piaggio had unveiled their new product for our market. It was a brand new maxi scooter called the Aprilia SXR 160. Now, Piaggio India has announced the opening of pre-bookings of the soon-to-be-launched, premium scooter. The booking amount for the new Aprilia SXR 160 is Rs 5,000 and it can be done by visiting the nearest dealership or through their website www.shop.apriliaindia.com. Piaggio has commenced the production of this new maxi scooter at its Baramati plant, Pune. As pre-bookings have started, Piaggio is expected to launch the scooter soon.

The upcoming Aprilia SXR 160 currently doesn’t have a direct competition in the market. The only other maxi scooter is Suzuki’s Burgman which is a 125-cc scooter. As the name suggests, Aprilia SXR 160 gets a bigger 160-cc, engine. The power and torque figures of the same are not revealed. Although, they have not revealed the power figures, Aprilia says they are going to be high.The SXR 160 incorporates Aprilia’s latest global design language.

Aprilia SXR 160 maxi scooter has been designed Italy for India and claims to bring in a first of kind of combination of style, performance and extraordinary comfort riding experience coupled with great experience. The SXR 160 will get features like wrap around LED Headlights, LED taillights, full digital cluster, mobile connectivity option, longer, bigger and comfortable seating, adjustable rear suspension, disc brake with ABS and signature Aprilia graphics.
Aprilia SXR 160 will be available in very attractive Glossy Red, Matt Blue, Glossy White and Matt Black colours. SXR 160 is the product of extensive research and development that was conducted by the brand for the last two years. Currently, Aprilia offers SR 125 and SR150 scooters in the market. Once the SX 160 maxi scooter is launched in the market, there is a possibility that Aprilia might launch a smaller capacity (probably 125-cc) version of the same.
Once launched, Aprilia SXR 160 is expected to be the most expensive offering in their line up. Aprilia was born into racing and is the real sporty flagship brand for Piaggio Group. Vespa also comes under Piaggio and was launched in India in April 2012. The Company has a state-of-the-art plant in Baramati, Maharashtra, where it manufactures the iconic Vespa alongside Aprilia SR range and also manufactures a range of 3 and 4 wheeled commercial vehicles at a separate manufacturing facility in Baramati.
