7 new hatchbacks to launch in India during 2021

While the SUVs are in the trend, there is still a demand for hatchbacks. There are a few reasons for it. The SUVs cost more and some people just prefer the driving dynamics of a hatchback because they are lower to the ground there body roll is well contained. There is also the factor of easy ingress and egress. For families that have old aged people, climbing into a SUV can be a bit challenging whereas in hatchbacks they can just slide in much effortlessly. Hyundai recently launched the new generation of i20. Even after an expensive price tag that could compete with the compact-SUVs, the i20 was able to gather 20,000 bookings in just 20 days. So, as we can see that there is still a market for hatchbacks in our country. Today we list down 5 new hatchbacks that will be launching in 2021

Maruti Suzuki Swift Facelift

Maruti Suzuki launched a facelift of the Dzire earlier this year. It got a new tweaked front face, some new features and a new engine. We expect the same facelift will be given to the Swift also. So, expect it come with a new aggressive front grille and tweaked bumper. Maruti will offer its new 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine that produces 88 PS of max power instead of 82 PS. However, the torque output will stay the same at 113 Nm. The engine will be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT.

Maruti Suzuki XL5

Maruti Suzuki WagonR has been quite a successful family hatchback. Recently a premium looking version of it was spied. It will get a more up-market look than the WagonR. It might sit slightly above the Ignis. The XL5 will retain its tall boy design and will only be sold through the Nexa dealerships. It will be powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol engine that we have seen on other Maruti Suzuki products. The engine produces 82 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 113 Nm. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT.

Maruti Suzuki Alto

Maruti Suzuki will finally be launching a new generation of Alto 800 which will be competing against the Renault Kwid. It will share its HEARTECT platform with other Maruti Suzuki vehicles such as S-Presso, WagonR and Ignis. It will be powered by an 800cc, three-cylinder engine which produces 47 PS of max power and 69 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio

Celerio was recently spied with an all-new design. This has been done to give the ageing small hatchback a modern touch so that it can continue to compete in the Indian market. The front and rear of the hatchback are completely new and expect the interior to also be tweaked. It will continue to be powered with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine which produces 67 PS of max power and 90 Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or an AMT gearbox.

Tiago Turbo

With the Tiago JTP now discontinued, there is no high-performance variant of the Tiago available. Yes, the Altroz Turbo will soon launch, but it will be much larger and expensive. Tiago Turbo was recently spied being tested on the Indian roads. We expect it to get subtle design tweaks like decals and ducts. It will be powered by the 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine which will also available on the Altroz Turbo. The engine will produce around 110 PS of max power and 140 Nm of peak torque. It will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox only.

Ford Focus

Ford will be bringing the Focus hatchback to India in a CBU or Completely Built form. This means that they will be allowed 2,500 units per year. The Focus competes with the Volkswagen Golf in the international markets. The Ford Focus is 4,361mm long and has a wheelbase of 2,649mm. This means it will be bigger than the compact-SUVs that we see in our Indian market. Also, it will be a lot exclusive than other vehicles. It will be powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged Ecoboost petrol engine which will produce 125 PS. There will also be a 2.0-litre turbo unit available which will produce 160 PS of max power.

Ford Focus ST

The Focus ST is the hot hatch version of the Focus. Ford will also be bringing the Focus ST as a CBU. It gets a lot more features that are performance-oriented such as rev-matching, electronically limited-slip differential, adaptive suspension with Continuously Controlled Damping Technology, twin exhaust tips, Recaro sport seats etc. The Focus ST gets the 2.3-litre Ecoboost petrol engine that we have also seen on the Mustang Ecoboost. The engine is capable of producing 280 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 420 Nm. It will be offered either with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7- speed automatic gearbox. It is expected to be priced around Rs. 45 lakhs.
