The Volkswagen Group, which includes the likes of the Skoda, Audi, Volkswagen is currently working on its India 2.0 strategy. Under the new strategy, the brands will bring in new vehicles in a bid to increase the market share in the country. Volkswagen will launch one of the most awaited vehicles in the Indian market next year – the Taigun. Before the official launch, Volkswagen has released a new promo video with the upcoming mid-size SUV.
The all-new Taigun will take on the other mid-size SUVs that currently selling like hotcakes. The rivals include the all-new Hyundai Creta, the Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks and even the likes of the Tata Harrier and the MG Hector. The all-new Taigun has been revealed and we all know what it will look like. The car is heavily inspired by the design of the T-Cross SUV and to make the Indian customers happy and attracted to the vehicle, a lot of chrome has been used too.
The Taigun will be an important car for the Volkswagen Group, especially since it will be the first-ever vehicle to be based on the MQB-IN-A0. The new platform has been derived from the MQB platform and is specially made for India to keep the costs of the car low. The same platform will underpin a slew of next-generation vehicles from the Volkswagen Group in India including the all-new Rapid sedan and the production form of the Vision IN mid-size SUV that will also launch next year.

Volkswagen showcased the car earlier this year in the concept form. However, the production form will be very similar to the concept form and there will be minimal changes too. The car will offer all-LED headlamps and tail lamps but the lower variants or the entry-level versions can get the halogens only.
The mid-size SUV will also come with a slew of features that will make it a good competitor against the loaded vehicles like the Creta and the Seltos. To start with, the vehicle will come with a multiple layer design on the dashboard, which looks modern and adds a sense of space. In the middle, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system is positioned and it comes with all the features like the Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and more. We are not sure if Volkswagen will offer something like Connected Cars technology that will allow the owners to see the statistics of the vehicle from a mobile phone and will also allow the owners to operate a few functions remotely. The rivals – Creta and the Seltos offer a host of connected car features.
The vehicle will however get a fully-digital instrument cluster. Also, there will be a sunroof, automatic climate control system, cruise control and more such features. Safety-wise, we will get to see standard twin airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, traction control, rear parking camera and more such features. However, Volkswagen is yet to announce these features officially.
Since Volkswagen has stopped offering diesel engine options in the Indian market, the all-new Taigun will offer only petrol engine options. However, there is a chance that the German manufacturer may also offer factory-fitted CNG kits with the all-new Taigun. The engine details are not known but the car is likely to get a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine from the TSI family of the group.
