According to a report by Autocar India, Volkswagen will be bringing the Polo GTI hot hatchback to the 2016 Auto Expo. The car will go on sale in September 2016 but only in the 3-door guise.
Although the official specs aren’t out yet, ACI reviewed the 1.8-liter TSI (turbocharged petrol) equipped vehicle this month. The same is likely to come to India as well, as the company is looking to bring it via the CBU route. Pricing will be crucial, but expect a price tag of around Rs 20 lakhs.
And that’s where it steers into a new segment, away from the relatively more affordable Fiat Abarth Punto. It remains to be seen how the market responds, but VW is clearly not looking at volumes for this one but rather to widen the Polo portfolio. A 5-door version is likely to come in the future, adds the report.
