Volvo has launched a crossover sedan — one of its kind — in the Indian market. Called the S60 Cross Country, the vehicle is based on the S60 but comes with a diesel engine, AWD as standard, and with a ground clearance of 201 mm — that’s a 65 mm increase over the standard S60.
It’s available in five colour choices: Rich Java, Osmium Grey, Onyx Black, Crystal White, and Bright Silver. Powering the vehicle is a 2.4-liter, 5-cylinder diesel engine that makes 190 hp and 420 Nm of maximum torque and comes mated to a 6-speed AMT. It gets an AWD system as standard, making it the only diesel sedan with an AWD drivetrain. In terms of dimensions, the Volvo S60 Cross Country is 4.638 meters long, 2.097 meters wide, and 1.539 meters tall.
Volvo is known for safety, and the S60 Cross Country is no less equipped. Apart from the usual set of airbags, ABS, stability control, the vehicle also gets autonomous braking, which functions up to 50 kmph. Wheel size is 18-inch but can be increased to the optional 19-inch ones.
The car is priced at Rs 38.9 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. In comparison the closest SUVs are Mercedes Benz GLA, Audi Q3, and BMW X1. All wheel drive drivetrains are optional except on the GLA, which gets AWD only on the performance-oriented AMG version.
The BMW X1 is powered by a 2-liter diesel engine (188 hp and 400 Nm) and offers a ground clearance of 165 mm. The Audi Q3 is powered by a 2-liter diesel engine (138 hp and 320 Nm) and offers a ground clearance of 170 mm. The Mercedes Benz GLA is powered by a 2.2-liter diesel engine (134 hp and 300 Nm) and offers a ground clearance of 183 mm. In comparison the S60 Cross Country is clearly better specced. Like the crossovers here its ability to go off-road will be limited but with the said ground clearance the ability to scale bad roads is expected to be terrific.
