Honda announced the launch of the much-awaited CRF1000L Africa Twin in India during the 2016 Auto Expo. The Japanese manufacturer has finally announced the price of the motorcycle in India and has started taking the bookings. Honda will bring only one variant in India and it is priced at Rs. 12.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The Africa Twin will come to India as Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route that has enabled Honda to keep the price so competitive in the market. The motorcycle can be booked through Honda’s Wing World dealers located in 22 cities across India. The first 50 customers to book the motorcycle will get an exclusive invite to experience the motorcycle during the launch event in India.
The Honda Africa Twin is powered by 998cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine that produces a maximum power of 87 Bhp and 92 Nm of peak torque. Even though the motorcycle is available with a manual transmission in the international market, the Indian variant only gets DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) automatic gearbox. The gears can be changed manually with a flick of switches on the handlebar and more enthusiastic users can choose the optional foot pedal but there is no clutch to control the motorcycle.
“Africa Twin- its name is inseparable from the spirit of Dakar Rally- world’s toughest rally raids. Down to its roots, when the going gets tough, Africa Twin gets going. There is nothing to hold back an enthusiast on the Africa Twin, as it’s the most reliable, versatile and proven adventure touring motorcycle. The real adventure is awaiting the lucky customers amongst the first 50 bookings of the legendary Africa Twin in India,” said Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President – Sales and Marketing, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt Ltd.
This will be Honda’s first ever litre-class product assembly in India following the “Make-In-India” announcement. The Africa Twin will become the cheapest adventure tourer in the segment and it sure will up the ante, post launch.
