Honda Mobilio 1.5 Petrol

Honda Mobilio

The Mobilio is an MPV that drives like a car, and that’s only one thing that’s interesting about this people mover. The other of course is the fact that it’s the most powerful petrol MPV sold in India. Yes, the Mobilio uses the same, rev happy 1.5 liter i-VTEC petrol engine (117 Bhp-145 Nm) that the City comes with. This motor gives the light weight Mobilio serious legs. Drive it hard, and you’ll know what we’re talking about.

Hyundai Verna 1.6 CRDI

Hyundai Verna

The Hyundai Verna 1.6 CRDI is one fast car. In fast, it’s the most powerful turbo diesel engined C-Segment sedan sold in India, and the thing about the Verna is that the power and torque advertised is pretty much what you get at the front wheels. So, 126 Bhp-260 Nm are the numbers, and these are higher than that made by any other C-Segment sedan. This makes the Verna a straight line rocket. We wish the handling matched the engine’s eagerness.

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross 1.6

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross

Why is the S-Cross here. We’re talking sedans and hatchbacks, isn’t it? Well, the S-Cross is a large hatchback, more than anything else. And with the 1.6 liter Fiat Multijet diesel engine under its hood, this car makes a full 320 Nm. Well, that’s more torque than even the fastest C-Segment sedans. The S-Cross’ mid range is phenomenal, and it handles beautifully. At the kind of prices it sells, this is one car that you shouldn’t miss if you want a large, super fast hatchback with good ground clearance.

Upcoming

Tata Sport

Tata Bolt Sport 1

The Tata Sport is essentially a Bolt with a more powerful turbo petrol engine, better suspension, and tweaked styling. The Sport is Tata Motors’ way of saying that ‘we can make fast cars too’. Scheduled to debut later this year, the Sport will use the 1.2 liter REVOTRON turbo petrol engine in 108 Bhp-175 Nm state of tune. It’s also expected to get a close ratio 5 speed manual gearbox, stiffer suspension and a body kit that makes it sit lower, and look sportier.

Baleno RS

Maruti Baleno RS 1

The Baleno RS is the steroid injected form of this premium hatchback. The RS moniker means that Maruti will give the Baleno a triple cylinder turbo petrol engine with about 108 Bhp-175 Nm. Considering how light the Baleno is, this car is likely to make the 100 Kph from standstill run in under 10 seconds. Knowing Maruti and the value pricing the company plays by, the Baleno RS could be brute value as well. A Diwali launch is likely.

Fiat Linea 125S

Fiat Linea Abarth

The Fiat Linea will get yet another tweak, and this time around, Fiat will make the C-Segment sedan even faster. The 1.4 liter T-Jet turbo petrol engine is expected to make about 124 Bhp-210 Nm on the Linea 125S. This will make the car slightly faster, and more involving to drive than ever before. The Linea 125S is expected to make its debut in the second half of 2016.

Renault Kwid 1.0

Renault Kwid Racer

The Kwid is a super light car, lighter than even the Nano. Now, imagine what a 65 Bhp, 1 liter petrol engine can do on a 600 kilogram car. Well, that’s what Renault is planning with the Kwid 1.0, which will soon be launched in India. The car was even showcased at the Auto Expo. While a AMT option will be served up with the Kwid 1.0, the real deal for performance enthusiasts will be the manual version of the car.

Fiat Avventura Urban Cross

Fiat Avventura Urban Cross 2

The Avventura Urban Cross is a more urbane form of the Avventura. The hatchback based crossover was shown at the Auto Expo, and will have the 1.4 liter turbo petrol engine in 140 Bhp state of tune. However, the spare wheel will duck inside the boot like the Punto, and unlike the regular Avventura. The Urban Cross will be launched in the second half of 2016.
