The country’s largest carmaker by volume, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, can also be named as one of the main pioneers of the hybrid car segment in the country. The company, back in 2022, introduced its proprietary Suzuki Strong Hybrid System. This hybrid technology combines the brand’s popular K15C 1.5-liter petrol engine with a powerful 140V lithium-ion battery, which provides unmatched performance and fuel efficiency.
Suzuki Strong Hybrid System: How it works
The video showing in detail how the Suzuki Strong Hybrid System works has been shared on YouTube by Suzuki Global on their channel. The heart of the Suzuki Strong Hybrid System is the K15C petrol engine, which delivers a power output of 115 PS and 138 Nm of torque. This engine comes integrated with an electric motor, boasting 33 PS and 60 Nm of additional torque. The hybrid system operates in various modes, including Eco mode, where the electric motor can function independently at low speeds, and regular mode, offering torque assist to the engine for reduced emissions and enhanced fuel economy.
The synergy between the petrol engine and electric motor is enhanced by a battery setup, comprising a 140V lithium-ion battery pack, a 12V lithium-ion battery, and a 12V lead-acid battery. This comprehensive battery system not only powers the electric motor but also supports essential vehicle components such as lights and climate control systems. The result of this strong hybrid system is a seamless driving experience characterized by improved efficiency, reduced emissions, and optimal performance.
Upcoming Maruti Suzuki hybrid cars in India
The company is betting big on the future of hybrid cars and recently it also showcased a brand new hybrid system. This new system is called the Series Hybrid System and in this, the internal combustion engine works as a generator for the electric powertrain. The propelling of the vehicle is done by the electric motors and not the engine. The company has revealed that it will be launching four new cars in the country with this powertrain. Those four cars are as follows:
Maruti Swift

The immensely popular hatchback Swift’s new generation will receive a significant upgrade with the Suzuki Series Hybrid System, which will be enhancing its fuel efficiency. With the added electric motor assistance, the Swift is expected to deliver around 35 kmpl.
Maruti Dzire

One of India’s favorite compact sedans, the Dzire, which is based on the Swift hatchback, will also come equipped with the Series Hybrid System for increased fuel efficiency. The new generation of the Dzire will boast a heavily redesigned exterior and interior. It will come loaded with a ton of new features, including a single-pane electric sunroof.
Maruti 7-seat GV
Maruti’s upcoming 7-seat SUV based on the Grand Vitara will also be receiving this new Series Hybrid System. Currently, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara comes equipped with the strong hybrid system mentioned above. It currently offers around 28 kmpl mileage.
Maruti Fronx hybrid

Apart from all the above-mentioned cars, the company is also working on the Fronx Hybrid. This new model will also get the Series Hybrid System and will offer a 35 kmpl mileage. Most likely, the exterior and interior design of the outgoing model will be retained. However, it could get some minor aesthetic tweaks.
