The past week was quite interesting for Maruti Suzuki fans – there were news updates about several upcoming cars, a Bollydood celeb who bought a Maruti Jimny, and details about the 2024 Swift. Take a look at them below for quick takes!

Jimny vs Thar Sales

Fardeen Khan's Jimny
Fardeen Khan’s Jimny

In February 2024, Maruti Suzuki sold 322 units of the Jimny, double the amount from the previous month. However, this figure still lags behind its competitor, the Mahindra Thar, which sold 5,812 units during the same period (a 16.1% increase compared to last year). The Jimny’s lower sales are attributed to overproduction leading to excess stock at dealerships, reduced interest after the initial excitement among enthusiasts, and less appeal to non-enthusiast buyers compared to the more versatile Thar.

Meanwhile, Fardeen Khan became the first Bollywood celebrity to own a Maruti Suzuki Jimny 4X4, a notable shift from the lavish cars usually associated with celebrities. Despite its anticipation among off-road enthusiasts, the Jimny’s sales have been modest, attributed to its pricing. The Jimny, celebrated for its off-road capability, light weight, and compact size, now comes in a more practical 5-door version, initially offered in India and now also exported. Powered by a 1.5-liter engine, it’s priced between Rs 12.74 lakh and Rs 14.95 lakh, ex-showroom.

Brezza Reclaims Top Spot

Maruti Brezza blasts past 1 million sales mark: What makes it so popular

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza regained its position as India’s best-selling sub-4 meter compact SUV in February 2024, outselling rivals like the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Kia Sonet, and Hyundai Venue with 15,765 units sold. While this represents a slight year-on-year decline, it showed a month-on-month increase. The Brezza’s popularity stems from its value proposition, fuel-efficient engines, distinct SUV design, comprehensive features, and Maruti Suzuki’s trusted brand reputation.

New Hybrid Powertrain for XL6 MPV

Maruti Suzuki XL6 MPV to Get Strong Hybrid Powertrain: Report

Maruti Suzuki plans to launch a strong hybrid powertrain for the XL6 MPV within the next 24 months, targeting fuel efficiency of over 30 km/l. This system uses a petrol engine to generate electricity for an electric motor that drives the wheels, significantly improving efficiency compared to the current petrol and CNG versions. This technology could reduce emissions while offering a balance between performance and cost-effectiveness, marking a strategic move towards electrification and expanding Maruti Suzuki’s hybrid lineup.
