Indian car buyers are excited for the launch of the upcoming Tata Motors’ Curvv coupe SUV. However, we have to break the bad news to the eager enthusiasts that they might have to wait a little longer. Recently, it has been reported that the new Tata Curvv’s launch has been delayed. It was supposed to be launched by the first half of this year, but it will now be coming around September.
Tata Curvv coupe SUV new launch timeline
According to Autocar India, the Curvv, which was initially slated for its debut in the first half of 2024, has encountered a slight setback. It will now have its market debut and price announcement around the festive season, which is September-October of this year.
Also, the first Curvv to make its debut will be the Curvv EV. Following the launch of the electric Tata Curvv, the company will be launching the petrol and diesel variants. Most likely, the ICE variants of the Curvv will be launched by the end of 2024 or early 2025.
Additionally, reports have also claimed that the company will also be offering a CNG variant of this coupe SUV, which will further help it to increase its demand and popularity. This strategy of offering multiple drivetrains has hugely benefited Tata Motors.
Why is the Curvv EV coming first?
Many people might be wondering why the Tata Curvv EV is coming out first. Well, the answer to this question is Tata Motors’ strategy. The company is aiming to secure a first-mover advantage in the fiercely competitive midsize SUV segment.
Tata Motors is following the same successful strategy that helped it with the Nexon EV and Punch EV. We have already seen that this approach has helped Tata Motors in making the above-mentioned cars phenomenal successes in India. The company, with the Curvv EVs’ first rollout, will also gain an advantage over the Maruti Suzuki eVX, its Toyota counterpart, and the Hyundai Creta EV.
Reasons behind this delay
As per the reports, the primary reason behind the delay of the launch of the new Curvv are the ongoing general elections. Historically, general elections have influenced consumer spending patterns. So, the company, based on this, could have postponed the launch.
Additionally, Tata Motors is also looking to prioritize the stabilization of production of existing models. It is also looking to make the delivery processes quicker for existing models before introducing a new vehicle to the Indian market.
Tata Curvv expected powertrains
Tata Motors has already announced that it will be offering the Curvv coupe SUV with a diverse range of powertrain options. These options will include a petrol, a diesel, an electric, and a CNG variant. The petrol variant will feature Tata’s new 125hp, 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. It will be offered with both manual and automatic transmissions.
On the other hand, the diesel variant will remain the same as the Nexon’s current diesel motor. It will be the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder unit. It makes 113 bhp and 260 Nm of torque. Additionally, for the eco-conscious consumers, the Curvv EV will be launched.
It will be featuring Tata’s Gen 2 acti.ev architecture. At the moment, the company has not revealed the exact powertrain and battery specifications. However, the company has promised an impressive range of 450-500 km on a single charge. Lastly, the Curvv CNG is also on the launch roster.
