Mahindra is planning to revamp the XUV500 in a big way. The crossover, which was first launched in 2011, is seeing big competition from the Hyundai Creta, the Jeep Compass and even the Tata Hexa. To counter this, Mahindra will not only give the XUV a visual upgrade but will also add more engines and power. Test mules of the facelifted XUV500 have been spied again somewhere in Tamilnadu, and this time show many more details.

The front end of the XUV500 will receive a makeover. The grille will get a new design and the bumper is also expected to get restyled. The alloy wheels will also feature a new design. The rear of the vehicle may also see a few visual changes. The interiors will get new features. We expect Mahindra to add Apple CarPlay to the facelifted vehicle’s infotainment system as the automaker just added AndroidAuto a few months back.

Coming to mechanical changes, the 2.2 liter mHawk turbocharged diesel engine of the SUV will get higher outputs. 170 Bhp is expected to be the new peak power while torque could be bumped up all the way up to 400 Nm. This will make the XUV500 the most powerful SUV in its class, beating the Creta, Compass and Hexa by a mile. Mahindra will also add a 2.2 liter petrol engine. The petrol engine will also be turbocharged and will have outputs of 140 Bhp-320 Nm.

The petrol engine could be offered in front wheel drive and all wheel drive layouts. Mahindra already offers this on the version sold in the Middle East. A similar spec is likely for the Indian XUV petrol as well. 6 speed Manual and automatic gearboxes are expected to be offered. The petrol variants are expected to be prefixed with G while the diesel variants will continue to get W prefixes. The facelifted model is expected to be launched next year.
