Maruti Suzuki has recalled 21,500 units of the Dzire compact sedan in the Indian market. This recall covers both the second generation Dzire (which went of production shortly) and also the newly launched all-new Dzire. The recall aims to fix a possible fault in the rear-wheel hubs of the cars involved. Maruti says that 21,494 units of the Dzire manufactured between February 23, 2017 and July 10, 2017 are a part of this recall. The cars will be inspected, and the rear-wheel hub replaced if found faulty. Both these measures will be carried at no cost to the customer.
Maruti dealers will begin contacting Dzire owners individually and ask them to bring their cars in for the recall. From the beginning of Octber 2017, Maruti is said to have already begun contacting owners of affected cars for the recall. Owners of the new Dzire can also verify whether their cars are due for recall by entering their vehicle chassis number (MA3 followed by 14-digit alpha-numeric number) into this web portal set up by Maruti. This is the second time that Maruti is recalling the new Dzire. The earlier recall happened earlier this year, for faulty steering assemblies. The first recall was a low-key affair done at the dealer’s end.
The new Dzire is India’s best selling sedan, and has also been the best selling car for many months of 2017. In fact, Maruti has already sold 1 lakh units of the Dzire in less than 5 months of launch, making it the company’s fastest selling car ever. The car is a hot seller in the private car market as well as the cab market. It is built on the lightweight HEARTECT platform that it shares with the Baleno, and the upcoming 2018 Swift hatchback.
The new Dzire is sold with petrol and diesel engines. Both manual gearbox and AMT options are available on both petrol and diesel variants. The Dzire is in its third generation in the Indian market. It was first introduced way back in 2008, as the sedan version of the Swift, and was built specifically for the Indian car market. The Dzire has gone on to become India’s favourite sedan by a huge margin. In fact, the Dzire sells many times more than its compact-sedan competitors put together. This should give you an idea of how popular this car has been in India.
