The Maruti SS80, or the original Maruti 800, as the car is commonly known as, brought a revolution in the Indian car industry. Back in the day, when an average Indian car buyer chose between the Premier Padmini and the HM Ambassador, the SS80 came across as a breath of fresh air. The SS80 was a huge hit. While it has been out of production for more than three decades now, there are still a few well-maintained, and even some tastefully modified, examples out there. Here’s a look at 10 such Maruti 800 SS80 cars.
Easily the neatest SS80 mod job we’ve seen so far! This SS80 has been immaculately restored but gets some new bits to give the design a retro-modern look. The regular grille has been replaced with a new one with SUZUKI letterings in bold. The original headlights have made way for projector units. The car also gets LED DRLs, a bumper diffuser, wider wheels, new design ORVMs, and LED taillights. This one’s our most favorite modified Maruti 800 SS80.
Even the second car we have here comes draped in a shade of red. The one gets a modified bumper with a pretty bold diffuser. It also gets a pair of round headlamps, which are flanked by turn signals. Other updates include side skirts and a set of new alloy wheels shod with wider tires.
This modified SS80 doesn’t get any loud body kit or round headlamps that try to mimic the classic VW Golf. Instead, the car has been restored to its original condition. To brighten up things a fair bit, it has been given a yellow paint scheme. Even the bumpers have. been painted in the same shade. The roof and the A-pillars have been painted black. Neat!
This one’s one mean looking modified Maruti 800 SS80, no? The highlight here is the black paint job and the naked look of the front. The headlamps have been replaced with projector units and the bumper has been done away with. There’s a really large grille with Monster badging to give this car its aggressive look.
Here is a modified Maruti 800 SS80 that seems to take inspiration from the mighty Ford Mustang. At the front-end, the bumper has been removed but a diffuser has been added. The grille makes way for a custom unit with the Mustang Running Horse logo. The car gets aftermarket deep-dish alloys shod with really wide tires. All this definitely adds a lot of muscle to the original design.
This one has to be the most radical SS80 modification we have seen so far. Basically, the hatchback has been modified into a two-door convertible. It has also been given a full leather interior and stylish alloy wheels.
This one, here, has to be among the hottest SS80s we’ve seen so far. Here, again, the bumper has been done away with but the car gets a bold diffuser. The original headlamps have been replaced with round units. The car also gains aftermarket chrome-plated deep-dish alloy wheels and new wing mirrors. Overall, this SS80 looks hot and has enough muscle to attract eyeballs everywhere it goes.
This SS80 doesn’t get a radical makeover. Instead, it has been restored to its original shape. The only modifications we can make out are the new chrome-plated alloy wheels, black wrapping on the hood, and new ORVMs.
Here’s another modified SS80 that has been restored to its original state. The only new additions are the new 5-spoke white-painted alloy wheels that have been shod with wider tires, and matte-black wrap for the B-pillar.
The last car on our list is another modified Maruti 800 SS80 that comes draped in a shade of red. Modifications include a custom grille, a new bumper, and aftermarket black alloy wheels with chrome-plated lips. There’s also a black racing stripe on the hood and a rear spoiler.
So, what do you have to say about these modified Maruti 800 SS80 cars?
