The first quarter of 2018 is almost over and we have already seen a few exciting launches in the market in the Mahindra Mojo UT and TVS Apache RTR 200 4V. The rest of 2018 looks quite promising and the market will the launch of many new motorcycles. Here are 15 such upcoming bikes in the market and their expected launch timeline.
Bajaj Pulsar 150
Expected launch date: March 2018
Bajaj is set to launch yet another update of the Pulsar 150 in the Indian market. The new bike has been caught uncamouflaged and it looks to get a few visual updates. The bike gets similar styling changes as the Pulsar 180 in the market. Mechanically, the Pulsar 150 remains same as the current version.
The Pulsar 150 will get 37mm fatter front forks, split seats and split grab rails. Other changes include the matte finish on the foot pegs assembly, pedals and exhaust muffler. The bike also gets 17-inch alloy wheels finished in matte black. There will be no ABS on the bike, hence, the launch will happen before April 1, 2018, after which all the bikes above 125cc in the market will have to offer ABS as standard.
Jawa 350cc
Expected launch date: End 2018
Mahindra, who owns the right to sell the Jawa brand in India and South Eastern nations is working on a new Jawa motorcycle. The bike will get retro-styling to take on the Royal Enfield range of motorcycles but cycle parts will be from the modern era. Reportedly, Mahindra will power the upcoming Jawa bikes with an upscaled version of the 300cc engine that powers the Mojo.
The engine will be re-bored for 50cc more displacement. Actual pictures of the motorcycle are not out yet so we do not know exactly how it will look like but the retro styling of the bike has been confirmed. The production of the bike is expected to take place from the middle of this year the Mahindra’s Pithampur plant in Madhya Pradesh.
Hero XPulse
Expected launch date: Mid 2018
Hero MotoCorp showcased the much awaited XPulse adventure motorcycle at the 2018 Auto Expo. The bike will be powered by a 200 cc engine from the Xtreme 200S that churns out a maximum of 18 Bhp-17 Nm. It will be Hero’s flagship model in the Indian market and will be the priciest too.
It’ll ride on a 21-inch front wheel and an 18 inch rear with long travel suspension. Features like ABS will be standard on the bike. The XPulse is likely to be priced at about Rs. 1.2 lakhs, and will be India’s lowest priced adventure motorcycle on the market.
Royal Enfield Interceptor
Expected launch date: April 2018
The Royal Enfield Interceptor was recently unveiled by the manufacturer at the EICMA show. The much-awaited bike will be the first parallel-twin engine powered bike from the brand and it will be the most powerful Royal Enfield ever built by the company. The Interceptor is a cruising motorcycle and vintage looks with modern bits like disc brakes and ABS.
The motorcycle will be powered by 650cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine that develops a maximum power of 46 Bhp and 52 Nm of peak torque. The Royal Enfield Interceptor is expected to carry a price tag of around Rs. 3 lakh when launched. The official bookings will start from April 2018.
Royal Enfield Continental GT
Expected launch date: April 2018
Royal Enfield discontinued the Continental GT 535 to make way for the new, more powerful Continental GT 650. The new parallel-twin engine will power the bike and the specifications will be similar. However, the riding position will be much more aggressive and it will be suited for the riders who like to go on short trips rather than long highway journey.
Honda CB Hornet 160R ABS
Expected launch date: April 2018
Honda showcased the updated 2018 Hornet 160R at the 2018 Auto Expo. The bike will be launched in India this month. The design of the motorcycle remains same as the previous generation model. The changes include all-new LED headlamp and a single-channel ABS. The bike also gets an all-digital instrument cluster and hazard indicator that can engage all the four indicators at the same time. New colours will be offered with the new bike too.
BMW G310R
Expected launch date: September/October 2018
The German brand showcased the much-awaited bike at the 2018 Auto Expo. It will become the most affordable BMW motorcycle in India and will take on the likes of KTM 390 Duke. The BMW G310R is made in India and is already being exported to many foreign markets.
The bike draws power from a 313cc, single cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with twin overhead camshafts. The motorcycle produces a maximum of 33.6 BHP of power but weighs only 158 kg, which results in a very good power to weight ratio. The engine is a reversed cylinder design that will give it a better centre of gravity and fun to ride.
BMW G 310 GS
Expected launch date: September/October 2018
It is an adventure tourer based on the BMW G310R. The first pictures of the adventure motorcycle made everyone happy around the world. BMW recently unveiled the motorcycle at the EICMA show and it will come to India later this year.
The motorcycle has taken a lot of design inspiration from the elder GS models. The motorcycle gets very purposeful built with front mud-guard, radiator shrouds, headlamp cowl and a supportive seat for long distance riding. The motorcycle will be powered by the same engine that will go into the TVS Akula 310 and the BMW G310R. It will produce around 33.5 BHP of maximum power with 28 Nm of maximum torque.
Benelli Imperiale 400
Expected launch date: Mid 2018
The Imperiale 400 looks truly classic with its sleek tank, round headlamp, spoked rims, and vintage styled leather saddle bags on the side. The motorcycle will be launched in India to take on the Royal Enfield Classic 350. It is powered by a 373cc, air-cooled engine that generates a maximum of 20 Bhp and 28 Nm. It gets a front disc brake and fuel injection too.
Cleveland Ace Deluxe
Expected launch date: End 2018
American brand Cleveland will soon launch its products in India. The brand has even showcased their bikes at the 2018 Auto Expo. One of their first bikes with the Cleveland Ace Deluxe, which can be passed on as a restored retro motorcycle. The bike gets upside down front fork, chrome dipped round headlamp, a straight seat and a front disc brake.
All the Cleveland Motorcycles in India will be powered by a single-cylinder 229cc engine that gets overhead cam, air-cooling and carburettor. The engine produces a maximum power of 15.4 Bhp at 7,000 rpm and 16 Nm at 6,000 rpm. The five-speed transmission is also same on all the bikes.
Cleveland Ace Scrambler
Expected launch date: End 2018
Cleveland will also launch a Scrambler version of the Ace in the Indian market. The bike gets same engine specifications but the styling is scrambler to target a different audience. The Scrambler offers a retro design with modern equipment that will make it quite popular in the market.
Cleveland Ace Cafe
Expected launch date: End 2018
There will be a Cafe Racer bike based on the Ace series too. The bike will be launched alongside all the other bikes in the market. The Cafe racer model will perfectly fit in a budget of the riders who want a street motorcycle that looks styling. The vike will get the same engine as the other Ace series.
Cleveland Misfit
Expected launch date: End 2018
As the name suggests, the Misfit will not fit in the segment when launched in India because it is very unique. The Misfit is a cafe racer motorcycle that will be launched later this year. It gets upside down front forks, a 320 mm front disc brake and a 220 mm rear disc brake. Prices of all Cleveland bikes will start from about Rs. 1.5 lakhs. Both the motorcycles are powered by a 229 cc single cylinder, four stroke-air cooled engine with 15.4 Bhp of peak power and 16 Nm of and peak torque.
Tork T6X
Expected launch date: September/October 2018
The Pune-based firm has unveiled India’s first fully-electric motorcycle. The motorcycle will be powered by Li-ion battery and will have a maximum range of 100 km. The batteries charge to full in about 2 hours and Tork says that the battery attains 80% of charge in just one hour. The company is also working to install charging stations in the Pune city first and then the motorcycle will be launched in the other major cities of the country. The electric bike will be launched later this year.
KTM RC 390
Expected launch date: Mid 2018
KTM RC 390 is yet to get a major update like its naked sibling the 390 Duke. The RC 390 is expected to get an update this year with LED headlamps and probably the TFT console. KTM will also work to reduce the engine heat of the bike. Othe engine and the fairing of the motorcycle will remain same as the current model.
Suzuki GSX-250R
Expected launch date: End 2018
The Gixxer SF has been quite a successful motorcycle in India. Suzuki will follow up the success with the GSX-R250. The fully-faired motorcycle will be the smallest one to carry the GSX-R badge.
The motorcycle will be powered by the 248cc, parallel twin engine that produces a maximum of 24.7 BHP at 8,000 rpm along with 23.3 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. The motorcycle gets a 6-speed transmission and will compete against the Kawasaki Ninja 300 in India.
