The Indian car market is about to witness a lot of action in the coming months. Soon, we’ll have car companies launching a handful of new cars that will not only look more modern but will also offer more in terms of features, performance, and fuel efficiency. While we have already reported about the all-new cars that are coming to us in the coming months, this post deals specifically with the new versions of some of the highest mileage cars that are sold in India.

2018 Maruti Suzuki WagonR

The Maruti Suzuki WagonR has been one of the most popular cars sold in the country. However, the tallboy is in the fag-end of its career and will soon get a complete model replacement. The next-gen WagonR will look more modern and will even offer more features. However, one factor that can really help it carry forward the legacy of the current WagonR will be the high mileage on offer. Powering the next-gen WagonR will be the same 1.0-litre, K-series engine that powers the current car. However, the 2018 WagonR will be lighter than the outgoing version, which means it will go on to offer a higher mileage and performance. Currently, the WagonR has an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 20.51 kmpl. Expect a significant improvement in this figure.

Tata Tiago Aktiv

Tata is about to launch a pseudo-crossover version of the Tiago. Dubbed as the Tiago Aktiv, the upcoming car will come with many cosmetic upgrades that will work together to give a slightly rugged touch to the hatchback’s design. However, in all chances, the styling updates will have a negligible effect on the weight of the car. Moreover, the current petrol and diesel engine will be carried forward unchanged. All this means that the Tiago Aktiv is likely to be fuel efficient as the current versions. Currently, the Tiago offers an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 20 kmpl for the petrol variant and 25 kmpl for the diesel model. Safely expect the Aktiv to offer similar figures.

Ford Freestyle

Ford India is about to launch the Freestyle pseudo-SUV in India. The Freestyle is basically a slightly rugged-looking version of the Figo hatchback that comes with many additional styling bits for a macho stance. The Freestyle will mark the debut of the new 1.2-litre Dragon series petrol engine. However, the 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine of the Figo will also power the Freestyle, which means you get similar mileage figures.

Ford Figo Facelift Diesel

The Ford Figo is about to receive a facelift that will bring along with a set of cosmetic updates and some additional features. The current 1.2-litre petrol engine will make way for the new-age 1.2-litre Dragon series motor that will offer the highest power in its class. However, that’s not why we have included the car here. Those looking for a high mileage car will be happy to know that the current 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which is well-known for the good mix of mileage and performance it offers, will be carried over to the facelift. Currently, the motor offers an ARAI-tested mileage of 23 kmpl. We don’t see any reason for this figure to go down for the upcoming facelift.

Ford Aspire Facelift Diesel

Even the Aspire will receive a facelift and the new 1.2-litre Dragon petrol engine. However, here, again, the diesel engine will be carried over from the current model and hence, will offer a similar mileage figure.

Honda Jazz Facelift Diesel

The Honda Jazz is about to get a facelift. The Jazz facelift will get a handful of new styling bits and some new features. However, its 1.2-litre petrol engine and the 1.5-litre diesel engine will be carried over to the updated model. This means you’ll continue to benefit from a high mileage from the iDTEC diesel motor. Currently, the Jazz diesel offers an ARAI-tested mileage of 27.3 kmpl. Expect the facelift to offer a similar figure as it’ll merely carry some cosmetic updates.

Honda Amaze Diesel

Honda is about to launch the all-new Amaze in India. The diesel version of the current Amaze is among the most fuel-efficient cars on sale in the country. It will be safe to guess that the next-gen compact sedan will also offer a similar figure. We say this as 2018 Amaze will get the same engines that power the current car. If anything they’ll be fine-tuned to offer an even better mix of performance and mileage. As per ARAI, the diesel version of the current Amaze offers 25.8 kmpl. Expect a similarly high figure for the next-gen Amaze diesel.

Tata Nexon Diesel AMT

Tata Motors is about to launch the AMT variant of the diesel-powered Nexon. The company will even launch a petrol AMT variant at a later stage but for now, our focus is solely on the Nexon Diesel AMT for the high mileage it will offer. The manual transmission-equipped Diesel variant of the Nexon offers an ARAI-tested fuel efficiency of 22 kmpl. The AMT variant will offer a similar figure.

Maruti Ciaz Diesel Facelift

The upcoming facelift of the Ciaz will be powered by the same Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine that powers the current car. The facelift will also get the SHVS technology that is currently being offered. Hence, it’s really very likely that the updated model will be as fuel efficient. Currently, the Ciaz diesel offers an ARAI-certified mileage of 28.09 kmpl. The facelift will remain as fuel efficient as the current car.

New Maruti Ertiga Diesel

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd will launch an all-new version of the Ertiga in August this year. The upcoming model will retain the current engines but will be lighter owing to the introduction of the HEARTECT platform. Hence, its Diesel engine is almost for sure to offer a really high mileage. Currently, the Ertiga Diesel offers 24.52 kmpl. We are expecting a significant improvement in this figure.
