As a proactive move, Tata Motors has rolled out key upgrades to the Nexon compact SUV. The upgrades are meant to prevent safety issues that may arise on specific components of the sub-4 meter offering. The projector headlamps of the vehicle now get silicon pads to ensure that the wiring of the headlamps does not touch the projector units. This is to prevent a risk of fire due to accidental contact of these components. The infotainment unit gets a software update after some customers reported glitches in Bluetooth pairing, and momentary freezing of the touchscreen after starting the car. Tata Motors is also replacing the plastic housing of the key fob.

The Nexon has been a big success for Tata Motors. The sub-4 meter compact SUV competes with the Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Ford EcoSport. A key reason for the Nexon’s success has been sharp pricing, which makes the SUV very good value for money. The Nexon is also feature loaded, and offers many segment leading features. It is styled quite funkily in order to appeal to younger buyers. The funky styling also means that the Nexon stands out on the road, and has ‘novelty value’ going for it. Tata Motors also offers customization options on this SUV, and will soon launch AMT variants on both petrol and diesel models.

The Nexon is currently sold with 2 engines – a 1.2 liter turbocharged petrol and a 1.5 liter turbocharged diesel. Both motors produce class leading outputs. The petrol makes 108 Bhp and 170 Nm while the diesel produces 108 Bhp and 260 Nm. 6 speed manual gearboxes are standard on both engines, which drive the front wheels of this monocoque SUV. Tata Motors has no plans to add an all wheel drive option to the Nexon. The SUV is produced at the Tata-Fiat factory in Ranjangaon, near Pune. Due to high demand and production constraints, some variants of the Nexon command waiting times of up to 2 months.
