Tata will soon launch the Nexon AMT in the Indian market next month. Tata has officially started taking bookings at a payment of Rs. 11,000. The new Nexon AMT will only get a single top of the line XZA+ trim. What are the five key changes that the Nexon will offer in the Indian market over other cars? Let’s find out.

Hill hold

The Nexon’s AMT automatic transmission is quite advanced and will offer the hill-hold feature. Most of the AMT transmissions do not offer hill-hold feature and the users have to keep the handbrake engaged to keep the car from rolling backwards when getting on an incline. The hill hold feature makes it extremely easy to drive on the inclines. Most of the conventional automatic cars offer the hill hold feature but it is yet to see a widespread availability on the AMT automatic transmissions.

Kick-down mode

The “kick-down” mode in the Nexon makes it feel more like a conventional automatic than an AMT. The “kick down” feature quickly downshifts to lower gear when the accelerator is pressed. Even AMT from other manufacturers do it but the Nexon’s AMT does it quicker, giving a better response time and better shift times.

Segment-first AMT transmission

Even though the Mahindra TUV 300 offers an AMT option, the Nexon offers both the petrol and diesel engine options with the Nexon. The Nexon will offer both the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and the 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine with the 6-speed AMT automatic transmission. This will be the first time that a petrol powered compact SUV will get an AMT transmission in India. Manufacturers like Ford already offer a torque converter transmission with the EcoSport petrol.

A new colour

Tata will introduce a new colour that will be officially known as ‘Etna Orange’ with the Nexon AMT. The new colour scheme looks quite catchy with Sonic Silver roof. The contrasting roof with the contrasting belt time makes the new colour of the Etna Orange colour scheme very attractive.

Cheapest AT

The Nexon will become the most affordable automatic car in the segment when launched. Currently, the XZA+ trim is priced at Rs. 8.8 lakh for the petrol variant and Rs. 9.7 lakh for the diesel version. The Nexon AMT is expected to get a price tag of Rs. 9.5 lakh for petrol and Rs. 10.3 lakh for the diesel engine version. This will make the Nexon AMT the most affordable automatic in the sub 4-meter compact SUV version.
