Later this year, Hero MotoCorp will expand its automatic scooter line-up with two new products – the Duet 125 and Maestro 125. Both scooters are expected to be priced at around Rs. 2,000-4,000 more than their 110-cc namesake models. Both scooters will use a 125-cc four stroke engine that Hero MotoCorp first showcased in the Dare 125. This 125-cc motor produces 8.7 Bhp of peak power at 6750 and 10.2 Nm of peak torque at 5000 rpm. The transmission is a CVT automatic unit. Both products will take on scooters, such as the Honda Activa 125 and the Suzuki Access 125.
BikeAdvice reports that the Duet 125 and Maestro 125 will have the following features, meant to be key differentiating points from existing offerings in the market. They will have the i3S idle stop-start system, which is also seen on many of Hero Motocorp’s commuter motorcycles. The system switches off the engine automatically when the vehicle is idle for more than a few seconds. Turning the throttle restarts the engine seamlessly. This technology will be a first-in-class feature in the scooter segment, and will offer fuel savings and lower emissions. This feature isn’t available on the Honda Activa 125.
A combi-braking system will be standard while a disc brake will be offered as an option. Diamond cut cast wheels, an external fuel-filled cap, a remote key opening, mobile charging point, lamp in the luggage compartment, side stand indicator and service-due reminder are the various other features that the new scooters will pack. Electric start will be standard on both scooters. Again, most of these features aren’t available on the Honda Activa 125.
As for suspension, telescopic front forks will be standard while the rear will have a monoshock unit. Telescopic front forks will allow the Hero Duet 125 and Maestro 125 to tackle bad roads better. This is a feature that is soon becoming common on most automatic scooters sold in India. The price of the Hero Maestro 125 is expected to start from Rs. 53,000 while that of the Duet 125 is likely to start from Rs. 49,000, ex-showroom Delhi.
