Japanese carmaker Honda has increased the prices of its Amaze compact sedan by up to Rs 31,000. The second-generation Honda Amaze was launched in India in May 2018 at an introductory starting price of 5.59 lakhs after being unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo. The new Amaze is now significantly pricier than the best-selling Maruti Dzire.
Since its launch, the Amaze has become a runaway success for Honda clocking the highest monthly sales number for a Honda car in India with 10,180 units sold in July. The Amaze also accounted for 51% of Honda’s sales numbers in India for the month of June and propelled Honda to the number 3 spot in the number of cars sold last month, pipping Mahindra to the podium.
Honda has now revised the price tag for all variants of the Amaze compact sedan. The base petrol E model is now Rs 20,600 costlier at Rs 5,85,000. The S , V and VX variants are all now Rs 10,600 dearer at Rs 6,60,500, Rs 7,20,500, and Rs 7,68,500, respectively. The two variants with the automatic gearbox S CVT and V CVT are also Rs 10,600 more costlier than before and priced at Rs 7,50,500 and Rs 8,10,500, respectively. In contrast, the Maruti Dzire petrol starts from Rs. 5.56 lakhs.
The entry-level diesel ‘E’ variant is now Rs 30,600 more expensive than before with a price tag of Rs 6,91,500. All the other variants, S, V, S(CVT), VX, V(CVT) have received a price hike of Rs 10,600 and are now priced at Rs 7,70,900, Rs 8,30,500, Rs 8,50,500, Rs 8,78,500 and Rs 9,10,500, respectively. The diesel powered Maruti Dzire is a full Rs. 35,000 cheaper.
The second-gen Honda Amaze is available with two engine options, a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. The 1.2-litre petrol engine produces 89bhp @ 6,000rpm and 110Nm of torque @ 4,800rpm. The petrol engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. The 1.5-litre diesel engine powering the Amaze cranks out 99bhp @ 3,600rpm and 200Nm @ 1,750rpm. The diesel engine too is paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT.
With the increase in prices, the lower specced variants of the Amaze are now more expensive than their counterparts from the Maruti Dzire’s lineup. However, at the top end of the variant list, the Amaze still offers better value for money to customers.
