Bajaj Auto is carrying out a ‘silent’ recall of the 2017, second-generation KTM Duke 390, the most powerful motorcycle sold by the Austrian brand in the Indian market. The Duke 390’s latest recall is the second such operation that Bajaj Auto is carrying out ever since the motorcycle was introduced in India last year. Instead of calling the operation a recall, Bajaj Auto is calling it a ‘monsoon fitment kit’. This particular kit is compulsory for all 2017 KTM Duke 390s sold in India. The ‘monsoon fitment kit’ will involve arresting headlamp vibrations, replacing rear seat bushings and replacing the ECU bracket.

The KTM Duke 390 is built at Bajaj Auto’s Chakan factory near Pune, and is exported to countries all over the world. In fact, Bajaj Auto’s KTM factory in India is a global production hub for small capacity KTM motorcycles displacing under 400 cc. The bike is known for its ferocious power delivery, sharp looks and excellent pricing. In fact, the KTM Duke 390 is faster than larger-engined bikes and significantly cheaper. The Duke 390 can reach 100 Kph from standstill in less than 6 seconds, and can hit a top speed in excess of 160 Kph. The key to the motorcycle’s blistering performance is its engine.

The second-generation KTM Duke 390 is powered by a 373-cc, four-stroke single-cylinder engine with 44 Bhp and 37 Nm on tap. This engine is paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox equipped with a slipper clutch. The engine gets fuel injection, liquid cooling, a four valve head and twin overhead camshafts. The Duke 390 gets street fighter styling and LED lighting is standard at the front and the rear. It rides on 17-inch wheels shod with grippy Metzeler tyres. As for other cycle parts, the motorcycle is equipped with upside down front forks and a monoshock rear. It’s priced at Rs. 2.4 lakh, ex-showroom Mumbai.
