Renault India launched its best-selling car in the Indian market in a new avatar last week. The updated Renault Kwid gets a few updates and the price now starts at Rs. 2.66 lakhs, ex-showroom, Delhi. The price is similar to the last version of the car. Renault has launched a new TVC for the 2018 Kwid that shows Kwid’s AMT variant.
The television commercial shows the Kwid going through a jungle easily and helping a baby elephant to reunite with its family. The 2018 version of the Kwid looks similar to the earlier version of the car but it gets a few new features. The 2018 Kwid now gets a reverse parking camera, a rear armrest, and a 12V electric socket in the rear seat. It also gets Emergency Locking Retractors (ELR) for the rear seat belts. This is a common feature in the competition cars that retracts the seat belt to create a snug fit for the rear seat passengers.
On the outside, the 2018 Renault Kwid facelift gets a new chrome grille at the front and that’s about it. Other features include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, digital instrument cluster, one-touch lane-changing indicators, front speakers, and speed dependent volume control.
The 2018 Renault Kwid facelift gets six colour options – Fiery Red, Planet Grey, Moonlight Silver, Ice Cool White, Outback Bronze and Electric Blue. Mechanically, the 2018 Renault Kwid remains untouched. The car gets 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre SCe (Smart Control Efficiency) engines. Both the engine options get a 5-speed manual transmission as standard but the 1.0-litre version gets the Easy-R AMT automatic transmission too. The 0.8-litre version produces a maximum of 53 Bhp and 72 Nm. The 1.0-litre engine churns out a maximum of 67 Bhp and 91 Nm. The Kwid is based on the Renault-Nissan CMF-A platform. The Kwid is quite popular and gets a segment-leading 300-litre boot space. The car quickly became the top-selling hatchback in the segment. However, stiff competition from players like Tata has brought the sales down.
Renault is working on a new Kwid that is expected to be launched in 2019. The new Kwid will get more substantial updates and a fresher face that will attract more customers to the Renault showrooms.
