Indian motorcycle manufacturer Bajaj has started dispatching units of the new Pulsar NS160 Twin Disc to dealerships. According to Autocar India, the new Pulsar NS160 Twin Disc is priced at Rs 82,360 ex-showroom (Pune), which is just over Rs 2,100 more than the regular NS160 with a single disc brake at the front, which sells at Rs 80,500 ex-showroom (Pune). The new NS160 variant is the second Pulsar bike to bear the Twin Disc name.
The new Pulsar NS160 Twin Disc is similar in every way to the regular NS160, except for the fact that the regular bike’s rear drum brake has made way for a disc brake. The new rear disc brake is a 230mm unit that looks to be borrowed from the more powerful NS200 while the front disc remains unchanged at 240mm. Other mechanical parts remain the same including the steel perimeter frame and box-section swingarm. Suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks up front and by a gas-charged monoshock at the rear. The Pulsar NS160 Twin Disc continues to ride on 17-inch wheels which are shod with 80/100 (front) and 110/80 (rear) tyres.
Providing power to the new Pulsar NS 160 Twin Disc is a 160.3cc air and oil cooled single cylinder engine producing 15.3bhp @ 8,500rpm and 14.6Nm of torque at 6,500rpm which is sent to the rear wheel via a 5-speed manual gearbox with short ratios. The NS160 Twin Disc features a 12-litre fuel tank.
In terms of design, the NS160 Twin Disc remains unchanged, though it could get slightly altered graphics to denote its dual disc brake status. The NS160 takes inspiration from the NS200 for its design with its aggressive looks that include the sharp looking headlamp, semi-digital instrument cluster, split seats and high angle tail section.
The Bajaj Pulsar NS160 Twin Disc will take on the likes of the Suzuki Gixxer, Apache RTR 4V and the Honda CB Hornet 160R. Except for the Suzuki, which is just Rs 24 cheaper, all the other dual disc variants of the Bajaj’s rivals are more expensive than the bike built at Chakan. The new Pulsar NS160 Twin Disc will provide a more powerful option for Pulsar buyers looking to own a safe Pulsar with ample power and good mileage.
