Here are new spyshots of an on-test Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV, which will be launched in India later this year. The second-generation Ertiga spotted testing seems to have emission control equipment attached to it. The all-new MPV will continue to be positioned as an affordable people-mover, with seating capacity for seven adults, and a price tag between Rs. 6.5 lakhs to Rs. 10 lakhs. The MPV has already been launched in Indonesia, and is just months away from its official Indian launch. The new Ertiga is expected to be sold with both petrol and diesel engine options, just like the outgoing model.
The all-new, 2nd-generation Ertiga will share the HEARTECT platform with the Maruti Swift and Dzire. This platform will make the MPV lighter thanks to the use of lightweight, high tensile steel. The reduction is weight is expected to make the MPV peppier and more fuel efficient.
The new Maruti Ertiga will feature a more powerful petrol engine – in this case the 1.5-litre K-Series naturally aspirated unit that made its debut on the recently launched facelifted Maruti Ciaz. This engine will put out 104 Bhp and 138 Nm, and will be accompanied by a mild hybrid system. Five-speed manual and 4-speed torque converter automatic gearboxes will be on offer with this engine.
The 1.3-litre Fiat Multijet turbocharged diesel engine could be the other option on this MPV. This engine is already available on the current Ertiga, and produces 89 Bhp-200 Nm. It’s paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Rumours also suggest that a new, 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine developed in-house by Suzuki could replace the 1.3-litre Fiat Multijet diesel. However, it’s not clear if the new engine would be available on the new Ertiga from launch. The new engine is also expected to bring in a new, 6-speed manual gearbox. The new Ertiga will get safety features, such as twin airbags and ABS as standard across all trims.
