Hyundai’s Maruti Brezza-rivaling compact SUV: Petrol & diesel engine details revealed

Hyundai is gearing up to launch their Carlino-based compact SUV for India. The test mule of the compact SUV has been spied testing in India for the first time. Hyundai will launch this compact SUV as a rival to the Tata Nexon and Maruti Brezza. Hyundai is expected to launch this compact SUV in India by mid-2019. Earlier, the test mule was spotted testing in South Korea and has now been spotted in India, which hints at a launch soon.

While Hyundai has not officially confirmed any details on the engine details, an Autocar report states that the new compact SUV will get two engine options. This Carlino-based compact SUV will be offered with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine which will produce power of 118 Bhp and 172 Nm of peak torque. Another engine option will be a BS-VI emission norms compliant 1.5-litre diesel engine which will produce 115 Bhp power and 250 Nm of peak torque. Hyundai can offer a 6-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automatic transmission on this new SUV. These engines make the new Hyundai compact SUV a lot more powerful than the Maruti Brezza.

The spy images of test mule reveal the design geometry of the compact SUV, which looks inspired from Hyundai Creta. The front end of the test mule carries Hyundai’s new cascading design grille along with a split-headlight design inspired from Hyundai Kona. The test mule shows a strong shoulder line, giving its side profile a look similar to that on the Hyundai Creta. Even the roof and windows have a similar shape. The SUV gets 16-inch, 5-spoke swirl design alloys finished in gun metal and diamond cut look.

Hyundai keeps the price tag for its vehicles a little more than the segment because of premium features being offered. Hyundai is expected to launch this compact SUV in the price range of Rs 7-11 lakhs. These prices will make it pricier than the Maruti Brezza.
