However, with the government imposing stricter safety norms for passenger vehicles on sale in India and new rules and regulations set to arrive via BNVSAP, carmakers are finally paying attention to safety. In this list, we take a look at the 10 cheapest cars in India that are offered with dual airbags and anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD).
1. Datsun Go
Datsun recently launched the facelifted Go hatchback in India at a starting price of Rs 3.29 lakhs. Datsun offers the Go with dual airbags and ABS with EBD as standard safety kit across all variants. This makes the Datsun Go the most affordable car to offer dual airbags, ABS and EBD as standard. The Datsun Go is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine with 67 Bhp and 104 Nm of torque on tap.
2. Datsun Go Plus
The facelifted Datsun Go Plus was launched alongside the revised Datsun Go earlier this month. The Datsun Go Plus is the most affordable MPV currently on sale in India with a starting price of Rs 3.83 lakhs. The Datsun Go Plus like its hatchback sibling offers ABS with EBD and dual airbags as standard across all variants. The Datsun Go Plus too is powered by the same 1.2-litre 67 Bhp petrol engine.
3. Maruti Suzuki Ignis
The Maruti Ignis is the most affordable Maruti car to offer dual airbags along with ABS and EBD as standard. Prices for the Ignis start at Rs 4.67 lakhs. The Ignis is offered with both petrol and diesel engines (1.2 and 1.3-litres respectively) both of which are offered with a 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options.
4. Maruti Suzuki Swift
Maruti launched the new Swift earlier this year and prices for the hatchback start at Rs 4.99 lakhs. Like the Ignis, all variants of the Swift are offered with dual airbags, ABS with EBD. The Swift is offered with both petrol and diesel engine options both of which are offered with manual and AMT gearboxes.
5. Tata Tiago
The Tiago is the most popular Tata car currently on sale in India. Only the top-spec Tiago XZ variants are offered with dual airbags, ABS & EBD as standard which is priced at Rs 5.11 lakh for the petrol version and Rs 5.92 lakh for the diesel model. The Tiago is offered with a 1.2-litre petrol engine, a turbocharged 1.2-lite petrol (JTP) and a 1.05-litre diesel engine options.
6. Mahindra KUV100
The KUV100 is the most affordable passenger vehicle from Mahindra & Mahindra currently on sale in India. The most affordable variant of the KUV100 offered with dual airbags is the K2 Plus 6 seater which is priced at Rs 5.12 lakh. The KUV100 is offered with 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engines both of which are paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
7. Tata Tigor
The Tata Tigor is the compact sedan sibling of the Tiago hatchback. Tata offers all variants of the Tigor with dual airbags and ABS with EBD as standard. Prices for the Tigor start at Rs 5.20 lakhs and the hatchback is offered with both petrol (1.2-litre and 1.2-litre turbo for the JTP) and diesel (1.05-litre) engine options which are paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The regular 1.2-litre petrol engine is offered with an AMT gearbox as well.
8. Ford Freestyle
The Ford Freestyle is the crossover version of Ford’s Figo hatchback and every variant of the cross hatch is offered with dual airbags and ABS with EBD as standard. Prices for the Freestyle start at Rs 5.23 lakhs and the crossover hatchback is offered with a 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine which are only offered with a manual gearbox.
9. Maruti Suzuki Baleno
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is the most expensive hatchback from Maruti Suzuki currently on sale in India. Maruti offers all Baleno variants with dual airbags and ABS with EBD as standard. Prices for the Baleno start at Rs 5.38 lakhs and the hatchback is offered with a 1.0-litre turbo (RS) and 1.2-litre petrol engines along with a 1.3-litre diesel all of which are paired to manual gearboxes. The 1.2-litre petrol engined Baleno is also offered with a CVT automatic gearbox.
10. Hyundai Santro
Hyundai brought back the Santro name for its all-new tall-boy hatchback which was launched on October 23. Only the top-spec Asta variant of the Hyundai Santro which is priced at Rs 5.46 lakhs is offered with dual front airbags and ABS with EBD as standard. All other variants of the Santro only feature the driver airbag as standard. The Santro is powered by a 1.1-litre petrol engine which is paired with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox.
