MotoKraft Customs, a motorcycle customization outfit based out of Delhi, has customized the Royal Enfield Himalayan on-off road motorcycle into a gorgeous scrambler. Called the SCRAM212, the motorcycle dumps the tall stance of the stock Himalayan for a more squat, compact look. The mechanicals have been kept mostly untouched and it’s the cosmetics that have received most attention.
The first thing that will strike you about the SCRAM212 is the paint scheme, done up in a dual tone, black-white colour. The glossy finish of the paint scheme combined with tan leather elements in various parts of the motorcycle is quite a classy touch. The seat and the part of the frame holding it have been shortened, and this give the rear of a motorcycle a truncated, minimal look. And it’s gotten 17 kilograms lighter.
Other changes include a free-flow exhaust system exiting from the right hand side of the motorcycle, LED headlamp and tail light, a custom bash plate, and 18-inch front and 17-inch wheels shod with knobby off-road tyres. The stock, long travel suspension of the Himalayan is retained on the custom motorcycle but the new wheels have reduced ride height quite significantly.
The stock engine has also been retained. The Royal Enfield Himalayan is powered by a 411cc, long stroke four stroke engine that puts out 24.5 Bhp of peak power and 32 Nm of peak torque. Fuel injection is standard. A 5 speed manual gearbox is standard. The air-oil cooled motor has received many internal changes in the Version 2.0 Himalayan that was launched in India a few months ago. This custom bike does use the older engine with the carburetor though. What this also means is that this custom motorcycle does not offer dual channel ABS, which is now standard on the stock Himalayan.
The extensive changes to the Royal Enfield Himalayan were necessitated by the various quality issues the first-gen model was plagued with. The Himalayan V2.0 is said to be a much improved product, both in terms of quality and reliability. Sales have been on the upswing. The stock Royal Enfield Himalayan with dual channel ABS is priced at Rs.
1.79 lakhs, ex-showroom Pune. Currently, the Himalayan is India’s most affordable on-off road motorcycle with no direct competition. The next cheapest ADV motorcycle on sale in the BMW G 310GS, which is priced at a hefty Rs. 3.5 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi.
