The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza was officially unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo a couple of days ago. The first sub-4 meter compact SUV from Maruti, the vehicle has been completely designed and developed in India. In fact, the it’s the first such vehicle that Maruti has put together independently, without involving Suzuki of Japan.
The compact SUV will take on the likes of the Ford Ecosport and the Mahindra TUV300. Considering that Maruti has dropped prices of the S-Cross, the Vitara Brezza is likely to start from new the 6.5 lakh rupee mark. The SUV will be diesel-only, with the petrol motor reserved for exports.
It’ll feature the 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet turbo diesel engine with a variable geometry turbocharger, in 89 Bhp-200 Nm state of tune. A 5 speed manual gearbox will be standard fare. The SUV has a ground clearance of 189 mm, and rides on 16 inch wheels. The top-end variant will get alloy wheels. Boot space is small though, at 328 liters.
The Vitara Brezza is lined up for a launch sometime in March/April, even as Maruti will begin promotional activities from next month. The SUV will be sold in 3 trims – Glamour, Urban and Sporty. The Glamour and Urban variants will have option packs, allowing buyers to add a passenger airbag and ABS+EBD, which will be standard on the top-end variant.
