The Bajaj Chetak has been and will always be a legendary scooter for us Indian. Many may remember it as their first set of two wheels or the first two wheeler they had ridden on, except a bicycle maybe. It revolutionized the way people traveled and became a house hold name. Why we are telling you this today is because of a video we have brought you, which shows a rather interesting competition.

We have in past brought you many stories which showcased tug of war scenarios but today, the competition is between an old school Bajaj Chetak vs a Royal Enfield Bullet. Interesting, take a look at the video below before we get onto what’s happening and why.

As expected, the Chetak loses out to the more powerful and newer Royal Enfield Bullet. However, what is noteworthy is the fact that the Chetak gave quite a fight to the Bullet, which is actually good to see. After all, it hints towards the old school scooter still having some muscles take on the likes of Royal Enfields. Also, to make the competition more fair, the scooter was loaded with a weighted sack. Afterwards, a man also comes and sits on the pillion seat of the scooter. As the Bullet is much heavier than the scooter and in competition like these, weight is a determining factor, this made the playing ground fair to some extent.

The Chetak used in the video is apparently a two stoke variant, which probably explains the resistance it is showing to the pull of the more powerful Bullet. Two stroke engine, though more polluting and technically less sound, provided much more power from a smaller capacity engine and also, the power delivery was sooner than their four stroke counterparts. This is because two less steps its engine had to complete, meaning greater RPM in less time. This was among the reasons why the Yamaha RX-100 was such a blast during its days and is still an enthusiast favorite motorcycle.

The bike used in the video is the 350 cc version of the Royal Enfield Bullet. It has a 346 cc engine that churns out 19.8 Bhp of power along with 28 Nm of torque. It is quite a heavy bike too and tips the scales at 180 kg. To let you know, the Bullet series of motorcycles by Royal Enfield is the world’s oldest running still in production motorcycle series. The production of the Bullet motorcycles started back in 1932 and was among the fastest bikes of its time. There was a gap of some years in between but from 1948, it has been in regular production.

Talking about the Bajaj Chetak, the iconic scooter was first made in 1972 during the initial days of Bajaj. It was originally based on the Vespa Sprint but around 1980, Bajaj developed an in-house design which it employed on the Chetak range. All the Chetak’s produced before 2002 were two stroke models. However, after 2002 and until its production end in 2006, the Chetaks made had a four stroke engine. As already stated, the model used in the video above is apparently a two stroke version. it was powered by a 145 cc two stoke engine that churned out 7.5 Bhp of power along with 10.8 Nm of torque.

Also, the video shows the competition being held on an open road amid passing traffic. We strongly advise against this and everybody must refrain from doing such antics on an open road. It not only puts your life to danger but also poses a threat to the other road users. If you have to do anything as such, better find an empty ground or an unused stretch of road.
