Ford India recently shared exclusive data with us about the buyer profile for the EcoSport. As expected, there are surprising results from this data – not only is the diesel model outselling the petrol by 3:2, every second EcoSport sold in India is of the top end Titanium / Titanium + trim. So, why the trend? We dug in deeper into the version line-up of the EcoSport, and this is what we think.
The Titanium versions of the EcoSport is about Rs 99,000 over the Trend for petrol and just Rs 84,000 more over the Trend for the diesel model. The latter is done so to ensure the diesel Titanium is under Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) which in turn attracts lower taxes. Good move there Ford! And because the diesel is a higher seller, we are assuming customers don’t mind shelling out 84k for the added features. What are these?
The EcoSport Titanium looks better
For the additional amount, the biggest draw in the EcoSport Titanium model are the 16-inch alloy wheels. Though the tyre size remains same (205/60 R16), a step-up from steel wheels to alloys do make a whole world of difference to the way this compact SUV looks like. Next, this trim also gets a chrome grille and body coloured fog lamp bezels inside the front bumper. Additionally there are satin aluminium roof rails, front & rear bumper appliqué and projector headlamps with day time running LED DRLs. All these additions go a long way in making the Titanium versions look far better than the Trend trim.
The EcoSport Titanium feels better
Step inside and the different between the Trend and Titanium versions is apparent. The latter gets a different fabric for the seats, chrome finish for inner door handles, soft fabric for door armrests, leather steering cover and even sportier alloy pedals. Likewise, this trim also gets a luggage compartment light, puddle lamps on the outside mirrors and front map lamps. Both the Trend and Titanium get the same 22.86cm touch-screen interface with similar connectivity options, 4 speakers and 2 tweeters.
The EcoSport Titanium is feature loaded
When you are paying about a lakh extra, you do expect more features too. In this regard, you get one touch operation for driver side window, a rear 12V charging socket, illumination for sun-visors, power fold outside mirrors, rear parcel tray, seat height adjust for the driver, front armrest with storage space, rear armrest with cup holders and a sunglass holder. Most importantly, as a cool show off item, the Titanium version comes with smart keyless entry and push button start! You also get front fog lamps.
All these additions go a long way in making the EcoSport Titanium versions look better, feel premium and the extra features do end up keeping both customers and their family members happier. Even the stunning looking Signature and S versions are based on the Titanium and those looking at a bling compact SUV definitely pick these ones. No wonder then, every second Ford EcoSport we see on the roads wears the Titanium badge!
