We had earlier told you that Mercedes-Benz will soon launch the V-Class MPV in India. Now, it has been revealed that the car will be launched on 24th January. Reports suggest that the premium MPV will be positioned around 75-80 lakh (ex-showroom) and will be the only premium MPV on sale when it arrives this month. Mercedes will most likely bring in the vehicle as a Completely Built Unit (CBU).
However, if the company sees enough demand, it may explore the opportunity of local assembly too.
The Mercedes-Benz V-Class will come as an option for those who want a big luxury vehicle but not in the form of an SUV. The MPV will provide ample of space and luxury along with sufficient power and excellent ride quality on offer. The low profile tires seen in the picture above will be replaced with more practical ones and the Indian specific model may come with some more changes too. Currently, the Toyota Innova Crysta is the most expensive and luxurious option one can have when it comes to MPVs.
Talking about the design of the vehicle, Mercedes has done a decent job to make the V-Class look smart. Still there is no running away from the fact that it is an MPV which, at the end of the day, ends up in a brick like design. However, elements like the sweptback LED headlamps, wide grille with Mercedes logo upfront along with a modern designed bumper and LED tail lights give it a decent appearance. The interiors, however, will be quite plush and borrow bits from the likes of the S-Class among other Mercedes vehicles. Leather and wood are used extensively on the car and the interior design is very refreshing to say the least.
Talking of the engine options, Mercedes-Benz will offer the V-Class in India with only one engine option – a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel from the OM654 engine family that powers the current C-Class and the E-Class. The common rail injection diesel engine which features a single turbocharger produces 192 Bhp of power along with 400 Nm of torque. The engine is paired to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. Though the V-Class will be almost mostly chauffeur driven, Mercedes has given a classy treatment to the front row too.
Globally, the V class comes in three configurations. There is the compact version that measures 4,895 mm, the long version measures 5,140 mm, while the extra long version has an overall length of 5,370 mm. India will most probably get the long version as that will be best suited in terms of positioning and pricing. With its launch on 24th of this month, the company will look forward to get the V-Class sell enough and revive the segment of premium luxury MPVs.
