Maruti Suzuki a couple of weeks ago launched facelift of their premium hatchback Baleno and Baleno RS. Now Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch facelift of Ignis hatchback. Maruti will launch the facelift/2019 version of the Ignis tomorrow, according to a report from GaadiWaadi.

The updated Ignis hatchback is likely to receive new features to meet the upcoming safety standards. It is expected to get projector headlamps, reverse parking sensors and high-speed warning system in the lower variants as well. On the inside, it will get an updated 7-inch touch screen infotainment system with Maruti’s smartPlay and it will support Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirror Link. Other updates will include a defogger in the Delta model and automatic air-con in the Zeta variant.

Ignis was launched in India a couple of years ago and Maruti Suzuki calls it urban hatchback. It is sold through Nexa outlets and is the most affordable car from Nexa. Ignis is offerd as a car targeting young, upmarket buyers and that is the reason it is sold through Nexa showrooms. Initially it was launched with both petrol and diesel engines, but later due to little response from the buyers Maruti Suzuki had discontinued the diesel variant.

It is based on the HEARTECT platform that we’ve already seen on the cars like Swift, Baleno and Dzire. Mechanically no changes are likely to be made to Ignis. The petrol variant of the Ignis gets a 1.2-litre K-Series engine which produces 82 Bhp and 113 Nm of torque. The petrol variant is also available in five-speed manual and AMT options. A few months ago, Maruti discontinued the diesel version of the Ignis on account of poor sales. Even the facelifted model will not get a diesel engine option.

ABS and dual Airbags are offered as standard across the range in Ignis. It also gets a host of personalisation options, in order to make it funky and exciting for buyers. The pre facelift Ignis is offered at a price of Rs 4.66 lakh ex showroom, Delhi making it cheaper than the Baleno and the Swift. The price of the 2019 Ignis is likely to go up a bit because of all the cosmetic changes made to it. However, it will continue to be positioned under the Swift in terms of pricing. It will be aimed at younger buyers who want a compact, highly customizable car.
