Maruti Suzuki had launched the all-new Ertiga MPV in November last year. It is the only MPV offered by the manufacturer at the moment and is offered through Arena showrooms across the country. But now things might change. Maruti Suzuki might soon launch a sportier, luxurious 6-seater version of Ertiga MPV which will sold exclusively through Nexa showrooms. There is a possibility that this MPV might get a different name.
When offered, it will be the first MPV in Nexa’s range. It will be based on the second-generation Ertiga but will be sold as a premium product. Sources suggest that the Ertiga based premium MPV will look different from the current model.
To distinguish it from the normal Ertiga, Maruti is likely to give this premium MPV a different name as well. The upcoming Ertiga based MPV will be more sportier to look on and will feature a 6-seat layout with captain seats in the middle row.
Since it will be a premium offering, Maruti is likely to load this MPV with host of features. Features like LED headlamps, DRLs, new set of alloy wheels, leather upholstery and cruise control are expected to be seen on the Nexa version of the Ertiga MPV.
The new premium, version of the Ertiga is likely to get the new in-house developed 1.5L diesel engine which is yet to be launched and a 1.5L petrol engine that produces 103 Bhp and 138 Nm of torque. This premium version of the Ertiga MPV is likely to get a bit expensive and will lock horns with Mahindra’s Marazzo which was launched last year.
Talking about the regular Ertiga, it is sold via Arena showrooms across the country. It is powered by a 1.5L petrol engine producing 103 Bhp-138 Nm and a diesel variant which gets a 1.3L Fiat sourced motor producing 89 bhp and 200 Nm of peak torque. It has even has mild hybrid system for better fuel consumption and to boost acceleration. It’ll soon get a new 1.5 liter turbo diesel engine, developed in-house by Suzuki. The new diesel motor will make 94 Bhp-225 Nm, and will be paired to a 6 speed manual gearbox.
The new Ertiga is doing very well in terms of sales, and Maruti is selling over 5,000 units of the MPV each month. With the inclusion of the premium version, these numbers are expected to further go up. The price of current Ertiga MPV starts at Rs 7.44 lakh to Rs 10.9 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi. The premium version of the Ertiga MPV is likely to be priced somewhere between Rs 8-12 lakh bracket.
