Maruti Suzuki had launched the all-new WagonR last month. Maruti had started taking bookings for the new WagonR before the launch and they received an overwhelming response from the customers. In less than 10 days before the launch the tall boy hatchback managed over 12,000 bookings. This shows how much we Indians love WagonR.
Things are not different even after the launch. Maruti Suzuki has received so much bookings from the customers across the country that the waiting period for the all-new WagonR has gone up to 2-3 months, according to GaadiWaadi.
The WagonR has been in our country for almost two decades and is one of the cars that we often see on Indian roads. Maruti had launched the WagonR in its new avatar on the twentieth year anniversary. The new WagonR is based on Maruti’s Heartect platform that also underpins other cars like the Swift and Ertiga.
On the outside it gets new square wraparound lamps at the front apart from new L-shaped tail lights. The car is larger in dimension than the model it replaces.on the inside, WagonR gets an updated cabin with dual-tone interiors and a touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple Carplay on higher variants.
The all new WagonR comes with two engine options. A 1.0L, three-cylinder engine is carried over from the older car and it produces 67 Bhp and 90 Nm of torque. The new 1.2L, four-cylinder engine produces 82 Bhp and 113Nm of peak torque. It is same engine that we’ve already seen on Ignis and Swift.
Both engines get 5 speed manual and AMT options. The new WagonR will also be available with a CNG option. In due course of time, we expect Maruti to begin shipping out the petrol-LPG variant of the WagonR as well. This is because a large part of India remains uncovered by CNG dispening outlets, and LPG is a good alternative. Also, an all-electric version of the WagonR is under development, and will be launched next year. It was spotted testing a couple of times on Indian roads and looks entirely different from the recently launched petrol model.
The electric WagonR will be launched in India next year. The 2020 Auto Expo will see the car getting displayed, and it’s the time when the exact technical specifications of the WagonR Electric are revealed. The car is likely to be priced between Rs. 7-8 lakhs, making it quite affordable. A range of 200 kilometers per charge is also likely for the new WagonR Electric.
