MG Motors will soon launch their first product Hector SUV in Indian market. MG which is now owned by China’s top car manufacturer SAIC is expected to launch the Hector SUV in the first half of 2018. Now, new details about the petrol engine of the upcoming SUV have surfaced.
According to Autocar, the 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine of MG Hector will be less powerful than Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson. The turbo-petrol engine in Hector is likely to produce 143 Bhp only and 250 Nm of torque. These figures show that the Hector is a bit underpowered when compared to its competition.
Two of its main rivals in the segment the Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson produce more power. The Jeep Compass is powered by a 1.4L turbocharged petrol engine that produces 163 Bhp and 250 Nm torque whereas the Hyundai Tucson is powered by a bigger naturally aspirated 2.0L petrol engine that produces 155 Bhp and 192 Nm of torque.
Jeep Compass is the only SUV in the segment that offers turbocharged petrol engine in the segment as of now. The upcoming Hector SUV will also offer a turbocharged petrol engine which will make it the second SUV to offer it. MG will offer the Hector SUV in both petrol and diesel engine options. The diesel engine of the Hector will be a 2.0 liter Multijet diesel engine from Fiat. It is expected to generate about 170 Bhp of power. It is the same engine that is seen on Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier.
On the inside Hector will get a long list of features including a 360 degree parking camera, flat bottom steering, dual-tone dashboard, panoramic sunroof and a flat rear floor for maximum space. Recently MG has also released a teaser video for their upcoming SUV in which it reveals interior features, split headlamps and LED tail lamps. MG Hector has been spotted testing several times in India.
Apart from Hector SUV, MG is also planning to launch 3 other models in India over the next two years. The next vehicle that is likely to make its way to India is MG e-ZS. It will be an electric SUV which is likely to be launched somewhere around October. It will be priced around Rs 20 lakh. The third Vehicle will be a seven seater SUV. It will be based on the Hector SUV, but with a different name. The fourth vehicle will also be a small SUV which will compete with the likes of Maruti Brezza and Hyundai Creta.
