One of the most popular aftermarket modification on the Tata Harrier has been the contrast black roof wrap. This simple but highly effective and eye catching modification gives the Harrier a resemblance to the Range Rover Evoque – a luxury SUV that’s a lot smaller but a lot more pricier. Here is a video that shows how the actual wrapping of the Harrier’s roof takes place.
This vinyl wrap costs about Rs. 7,000, which is quite affordable. Also, the modification will not attract the attention of cops or the RTO authorities as it’s very subtle, and seems like it’s from Tata Motors itself. Another popular modification for the Harrier is aftermarket alloy wheels. Like the contrast roof wrap, aftermarket alloy wheels won’t really attract the attention of cops/RTO officials if the size of the new wheel is retained as is.
The Tata Harrier is one of the most expensive SUVs produced by the automaker. However, for the kind of size it offers, and its wide range of features, the SUV features a value-for-money price tag. Prices of the Tata Harrier start from Rs. 12.69 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi for the XE variant while the top end XZ variant is priced at Rs. 16.25 lakhs.
The Tata Harrier that’s on sale currently is based on the Land Rover D8 platform that also underpins the Discovery Sport SUV. On the Harrier, this platform is called the Omega – and features an extensive amount of localization including the swapping of aluminium bits for cheaper, steel parts. The Omega platform will underpin a range of new SUVs from Tata Motors in the coming years.
The current Harrier is powered by a 2 liter Fiat Multijet turbocharged diesel engine that outputs 140 Bhp of peak power and 350 Nm of peak torque. A 6 speed manual gearbox is standard, and handles torque transfer to the front wheels of the SUV. While there’s no all wheel drive on offer even as an option, the Harrier doese get a rough road mode that varies torque between the front wheels for maximum traction on slippery surfaces.
In the coming months, Tata Motors will launch an automatic variant of the Harrier. The automatic gearbox – a 6 speed torque converter unit – will be sourced from Hyundai. The automaker is also working on a turbocharged petrol engine option for the Harrier. The turbo petrol motor will displace 1.6 liters and is expected to make about 140 Bhp of peak power. It’ll arrive sometime in 2020.
