Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the XL6 luxury MPV in India on the 21st of August, 2019. Bookings for the new car are already open for a booking amount of Rs. 11,000. The XL6 will be sold exclusively through Maruti Suzuki’s NEXA chain of dealerships. Even ahead of the official unveil, here’s the XL6 – fully unmasked. The XL6 is based on the all-new, 2nd generation Ertiga but the new MPV gets a slew of stylistic changes to give it a distinct look on the outside. On the inside, the interiors get a full makeover with plusher seats, and a 6 seat layout with two rows of captain seats. The Maruti Suzuki XL6 will be positioned above the Ertiga in terms of price and positioning, and is expected to be sold only in a top-spec trim.
The idea is to give buyers seeking a family SUV with a dose of comfort and luxury, at a price that makes it a lot cheaper than the Toyota Innova Crysta, which is currently the most popular, luxurious MPV on sale in the Indian market. A sub-Rs. 10 lakh price tag is likely for the Maruti Suzuki XL6, which will make it nearly Rs. 5 lakhs cheaper than the Innova Crysta, whose base variant starts from Rs. 14.93 lakhs. The Maruti XL6 will be a petrol-only MPV, and will use the 1.5 liter petrol mild hybrid engine with 104 Bhp-138 Nm outputs. This engine will be paired with two gearbox options: a 5 speed manual and a 4 speed torque converter automatic. A front wheel drive layout will be standard.
In terms of stylistic changes, the Maruti Suzuki XL6 gains new headlamps, a new front grille, bumper inserts at the front and rear, cladding on the sides and this includes the wheel wells, revised alloy wheels, roof rails and some more cladding on the hatch lid. Overall, the XL6 looks more butch than the new Ertiga, which clearly has a MPV look.
On the inside, apart from the new seating layout, leather is used on all the seats and the interiors get a plum and black colour scheme, making it classier. The SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment interface is carried over from the Ertiga, and will offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The new MPV is meant to further increase sales of the Ertiga, making it India’s undisputed leader in the MPV segment. Watch this space as we bring you more details from the launch event.
