The Mahindra Thar is an extremely mod friendly machine, and almost every Thar on the road seems to be customized to some extent. And once in a while, we get to see something really raw, oozing attitude and all. This is that Thar! Custom built by Backyard Customs of Jammu, this 4X4 looks butch and imposing, from almost every angle. It’s called the Iron Hide for good reason. Enough talk, let the pictures take over.
The customization list on the Iron Hide is long, but the good bit is that the iconic ‘Jeep’ shape of the Thar has been retained. So what you get is the traditional Jeep look, infused with enough macho and menace that’ll make other motorists squirm and dart for cover.
For starters, you have a massive 35 inch mud terrain Mastercraft rubber. Evidently, that wasn’t tall enough for the folks at Backyard Customs. So they got in another 5 inches with a body lift kit. You’ll essentially be sitting in the first floor. Well, that’s how tall this modded Thar is.
The soft top has been retained while a roll cage has been added. That’s a useful addition considering the center of gravity of this meanie, and how prone it could be to tipping over if handled wrong. The front gets a custom bullbar bumper that’ll scare autorickshaws and lesser into submission while headlamps are projector units.
A 9,000 pound winch sits on the bumper, while the grille gets an angry bird cover.Light bars sit atop the bull bar, bumper and bonnet while LED fog lamps on the bumper add to the lighting effect at front. At the rear, rectangular LED tail lamps and a custom bumper round off the changes.
On the flanks, the fenders have been chopped to let the tyres do the talking, and splashing. You don’t want to be anywhere near this one when the skies open up. On the inside, you get Sparco bucket seats, power windows, diamond plate flooring, sun roof, a custom audio unit and even live TV. To make life more comfortable, the Iron Hide ride on Iron Man suspension. This sums up the Iron Hide for you.
