The Hyundai Santro made a big comeback into the Indian car market last year, and the entry-level hatchback has been a steady seller for the South Korean automaker over the past one year, averaging about 5,000 monthly units. The new Santro has replaced the Hyundai Eon as the automaker’s least priced offering, and to commemorate the car’s 1st anniversary, Hyundai has come up with an anniversary edition available in Sportz trim. Meanwhile, here are the various changes on the Hyundai Santro Anniversary Edition explained through the video we’ve lined up for you.
Key changes on the outside include blacked out bits. The wing mirrors, roof rails and door handles get blacked out while the wheel covers now get a gun metal grey finish. Hyundai has added rub strips on the doors and a chrome garnish on the bootlid, which also gets an anniversary edition badge denoting the car’s special edition status. On the inside, the dashboard gets an all-black finish with blue highlights around the center console to relieve monotony, and add a dash of colour. These changes pretty much wrap up everything that’s new on the Anniversary Edition of the Santro. Hyundai dealers in India have begun accepting bookings for the car, and deliveries will begin shortly.
The anniversary edition car is available with 5 speed manual and AMT options, and is mechanically unchanged. What this means is, the 1.1 liter-4 cylinder petrol engine is carried over. This motor makes 68 Bhp-99 Nm, and is peppy enough for everyday use. The manual gearbox equipped Santro Anniversary Edition is priced at Rs. 5.12 lakhs while the AMT variant is priced at Rs. 5.75 lakhs. Both prices reflect ex-showroom Delhi figures. Hyundai does not offer a diesel engine on the Santro, and neither has any plans of doing so.
Buyers seeking lower running costs may opt for the CNG-Petrol dual fuel version of the Santro, which is available in select cities of India that have well established CNG dispensing infrastructure. Competitors for the Hyundai Santro include the Maruti Alto K10, the Renault Kwid 1.0 and the Tata Tiago. Hyundai will soon make the petrol engine of the Santro compliant with the upcoming Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms. A mild price hike is likely as and when this change happens. For now, prices of the Santro start from Rs. 4.15 lakhs for the entry-level Era Executive trim, and go all the way up to Rs. 5.75 lakhs for the Sportz AMT Special Edition trim.
