Hyundai is now offering the class leading 1.6 liter CRDI turbo diesel engine on the E+ and EX entry level variants of the top-selling Creta compact SUV. The Hyundai Creta 1.6 Diesel in E+ and EX trims has already begun reaching dealerships, and prices have also been revealed. The Creta E+ 1.6 Diesel is priced at Rs. 10.88 lakhs while the EX trim costs Rs. 11.92 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. Here is the first walkaround video of the 1.6 Diesel Creta base variant from a dealership in South India. Hat tip to AutoTrend TV.

The biggest selling point of the E+ and EX variants of the Creta 1.6 Diesel is the engine itself. The motor makes 126 Bhp-260 Nm, and these are class leading outputs. It’s paired to a slick shifting 6 speed manual gearbox that drives the front wheels. While the same engine gets a 6 speed torque converter automatic gearbox on higher trims of the Creta, the E+ and EX are manual-only variants given their cut price nature. In terms of safety equipment, ABS, twin airbags, reverse parking sensors, speed alerts and seat belt reminders are standard on both variants. In terms of other features, both the E+ and EX variants offer decent equipment levels but are a lot more basic than the SX and SX+ trims, which is understandable given their lower price tags.

The Creta 1.6 Diesel’s E+ trim gets halogen headlamps, remote locking, manual air conditioning, electrically adjustable wing mirrors, front armrest, tilt-adjustable steering and power windows as standard features. The EX trim adds LED DRLs, a rear armrest, adjustable rear headrests, a rear parking camera and a 5.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with steering-mounted controls. Hyundai sells the Creta with two other engines: a 1.6 liter naturally aspirated petrol that makes 121 Bhp-151 Nm, and a smaller, 1.4 liter turbo diesel with 89 Bhp-220 Nm. While the petrol engine gets 6 speed manual and torque converter automatic gearboxes, the smaller diesel is available only with a 6 speed manual gearbox.
