Suzuki Jimny, which was launched in an all-new avatar last year in the international markets has become the talk of the town. The all-new Jimny has drawn a lot of attention in the international markets and in many countries, the car remained sold out for the most time soon after its launch. While there are numerous rumours that suggest that the all-new Jimny may get launched in India in the coming times, Maruti Suzuki has not commented on it officially. In the countries where it is already available, people are pitting it against the biggies like the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen and the Jeep Wrangler. Here is one such video that has been done by Car Wow UK and the video shows the three SUVs fighting it out in the off-road tracks doing various challenges.
Before the track test, here are the specifications of all the three vehicles. The Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG gets powered by a 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbocharged engine that generates a maximum power of 585 PS and 850 Nm. It gets a 9-speed automatic transmission and central differential lock in place with individual differential lock systems for each axle. Also, the transmission gets a low-range transfer case.
The Suzuki Jimny is the least powerful of the three cars. It gets powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that generates a maximum of 101 PS and peak torque of 130 Nm. It gets a 5-speed manual transmission but there is a low-range transfer case for the 4X4 drive system. The Jeep Wrangler gets the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that generates a maximum power of 272 PS and peak torque of 400 Nm. It gets an 8-speed automatic transmission. Two differential locks and a bunch of other features that allow it to go through most kinds of off-roading without much of a problem.
The first challenge, the three cars climb a 30 metres incline that is extremely slippery and muddy. The Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG has all the differential locks engaged and the vehicle is in rock mode. The video did not say in which mode the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon was but it may also have every off-roading aid engaged. The challenge was won by the Mercedes-Benz while the Suzuki Jimny came in second. The Jeep Wrangler was the last one to finish the incline drag race.
The second challenge in the video is the axle twister. Here, the Jeep Wrangler cruises through the challenge without much of a fuss. The Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG also did the challenge without much of a problem but its exhaust positioning on the side made the driver a bit worried. However, the Jimny faced a bit of a traction issue in the middle but nothing serious and it went through the challenge without a problem too. Compared to the Jeep Wrangler and the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG, the Jimny did struggle, which is why it was awarded the last position on the podium.
In the third challenge, the three SUVs had to go through a muddy path while taking a tight turn on the way. The Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG took the challenger first. Since it has a longer turning radius, it took a bit of time to make a U-Turn and completed the challenge in 56 seconds. The Jeep Wrangler also faced a similar turning radius problem but it was quicker than the Mercedes-Benz SUV and completed the challenge in just 45 seconds. The light-weight Suzuki Jimny went absolutely gas on the track and completed it in just 30 seconds!
The fourth challenge tested the vehicle’s ability to slow down while coming down a hill. Since the Jimny has no such electronics controlling its speed, it came down first and lost the challenge. The Mercedes-Benz came in second because there is no hill descent control while the Jeep Wrangler cruised slowly through it to finish it last and win the challenge.
The last challenge saw the three cars going up on an off-road incline. The Suzuki Jimny completed the challenge but it struggled throughout to find traction. This is primarily because of its lightweight. The other two SUVs comfortably did the challenge without any problem. Towards the end, all three SUVs have similar 12 points on the chart. However, one should know that the Jimny costs a fraction of the other two cars!
