Concepts shown at the Auto Expo generally remain just that, concepts. We now have an exception – the Thar Daybreak edition. Mahindra will build you the vehicle through its customization division. And here’s everything you need to know about the off roader that will tower over everything else on the road.
What is the Daybreak edition all about?
It’s essentially a customized Thar, one that looks mean and butch from almost every angle. The list of modifications is extensive. For starters, you have 37 inch Maxxis tyres shod on steel rims. These tyres are key to making the Daybreak edition look so imposing. You’ll also be surprised to know that the tyres alone make up for half the customization’s cost.
Other changes on the outside include custom fenders, custom bumpers, a custom-built hood, a winch, a snorkel, a farm jack, roll cage, LED projector headlamps and LED tail lamps, a tweaked door design, re-routed exhaust and custom wing mirrors. The roof gets guide lights. Mechanical changes are said to include differential locks and tweaked suspension bits.
On the inside, the vehicle gets a new steering wheel, red accents on the dashboard with the center console gaining a touchscreen infotainment unit. The soft top makes way for a bikini top for the front cabin with the rear left open to the sky. The rear benches get replaced with front facing seats while the front seats are also customized units.
What does it take to get one?
It’ll take a full two months, a donor Thar CRDe and 9.6 lakh rupees, excluding taxes. If you already own a Thar you’ll have to send the donor vehicle to Mahindra’s customization division in Mumbai, who will customize your ride.If you don’t own one, you can order a Thar CRDe at any Mahindra dealer and get it shipped to the customization division.
