The Hyundai Elantra has been one of the most awaited luxury segment car of this year. The current Elantra has grown old and does not possess the same verve as it once used to. The all-new sedan looks straight out of the future with its new exterior design that follows the Hyundai’s new global family design. It is bigger, faster and carries some serious upgrades. Visual changes
The Elantra does not follow the flowing Fluidic design any more. It is sharper and looks much more aggressive than the outgoing model. The car now flaunts a hexagonal grille with elongated DRLs. The front bumper is designed with layers and has round fog lamp housings on either end. The Elantra also features a deeper crease on the body showing its stronger character and the new 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels look very elegant on the car.

The roofline is now more dropping that adds a sleeker look the overall vehicle. On the rear, the all-new Elantra gets redesigned LED lamps that now looks similar to the Elite i20, and the tail section now carries more aggressive creases. The new Elantra looks gorgeous and there are no two ways about it.
On the inside, the new Elantra gets a lot of creature comfort. There is a 7-inch touch screen that has navigation and is supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The interiors get high-gloss finish and leather package for added premium feel.
The new Elantra is now bigger and comes with a longer wheelbase which translates into more space on the inside. The rear has better leg space and knee room but the rear windows are smaller than before. The new-Elantra also features high-end features like cooled front seats, 10-way adjustable power seats, auto cruise control and much more.
Engine
The Elantra will be offered with both petrol and diesel engines. The 1.6-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine produces a maximum power of 127 Bhp at 4,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 265 Nm between 1,900 – 2750 rpm. The 2.0-litre petrol engine has a maximum power output of 150 Bhp at 6,200 rpm and 190 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm.
Both the engine options will be offered with 6-speed automatic and 6-speed automatic transmissions. The ARAI certified mileages: Petrol MT – 14.59 Kmpl, Petrol AT – 14.62 Kmpl, Diesel MT – 22.54 Kmpl and Diesel AT – 18.23 Kmpl. The Elantra Diesel with the manual transmission is the most fuel efficient car in the class.
Variants
The Elantra will be offered in six variant options and the car is very well equipped even on the base variant. 16-inch alloy wheels, all four disc brakes with ABS and EBD, dual front airbags, adjustable seat height, audio system, glove box cooling, infotainment with USB and AUX-in, and rear AC vents are standard features across all the variants.
S variant – Rs 12.99 lakh, Diesel MT – Rs. 14,79 lakh
The base variant comes with normal halogen headlamps, normal tail lamps, automatic headlamps, front and rear disc brakes to start with. The ORVMs and door handles are body coloured and it gets a printed antenna. The base variant is pretty well loaded.
SX variant
From the SX variant, the car gets projector lamps, rear parking sensors, LED tail lamps, chrome on the radiator grille, shark fin antenna, leather on steering wheel and gear knob, dual zone climate control, ionized air filter, tilt and telescopic steering, touch screen with navigation, rear parking camera, voice recognization.
SX AT variant
The variant carries similar features as the SX variant. Only addition is the Electronic Type Shift lock, which is a safety feature. Only petrol engine is available with this option

The SX optional variant comes with Electronic Stability Control, Vehicle Stability Management, and Hill-Start control. The variant also gets HID and LED DRLs. Door handles are chrome and the interiors are full leather. It also comes with illuminated scuff plates and metal pedals. Hands-free trunk operation, auto cruise control, and start/stop keyless are also available from this variant onwards.

In addition to front two airbags, the top automatic variant also gets side and curtain airbags. Speed sensing door locks, cooled seats and sunroof. The Elantra will compete with the likes of the Toyota Corolla Altis (13.79 to 18.67 lakhs), the Chevrolet Cruze (13.95 to 17.46 lakhs), the Volkswagen Jetta (14.87 to 20.89 lakhs), the Renault Fluence (15.19 to 16.82 lakhs) and the Skoda Octavia (16.58 to 22.41 lakhs).
